According to ABC News, the use of kidnapping by Mexican drug cartels for ransom and revenge has spread beyond the Rio Grande and into Arizona — and the federal government has done nothing to stop it. Phoenix has become the second-worst city in the world for kidnappings, right behind Mexico City, with brutal dismemberments for those abductees who do not get ransomed quickly enough:
In what officials caution is now a dangerous and even deadly crime wave, Phoenix, Arizona has become the kidnapping capital of America, with more incidents than any other city in the world outside of Mexico City and over 370 cases last year alone. But local authorities say Washington, DC is too obsessed with al Qaeda terrorists to care about what is happening in their own backyard right now.
“We’re in the eye of the storm,” Phoenix Police Chief Andy Anderson told ABC News of the violent crimes and ruthless tactics spurred by Mexico’s drug cartels that have expanded business across the border. “If it doesn’t stop here, if we’re not able to fix it here and get it turned around, it will go across the nation,” he said.

Please! Phoenix has a problem because our police chief coddles illegals. Phoenix was a sanctuary city and the politicians are slowing beginning to understand that the people are fed up. I’m convinced the chief and mayor are on the take the way they turn their heads.

The Federal government could make jobs by hiring and heavily arming Border Patrol and other law enforcement employees, and sending them to Arizona.

JD Hayworth is hinting that he might run for Senate against McCain in 2010. He has had a popular talk show on KFYI ever since Harry Mitchell defeated him and took his seat in the House of Representatives. I would certainly vote for JD over John, but it’s hard to tell whether he would win.

Should say "beyond the US-Mexico border." The ABC article does not mention the Rio Grande, (called Rio Bravo on the Mexico side) which is the border only for Texas-Mexico, and then goes north into New Mexico.

Actually they still have cartels in Colombia. What the Colombians have done is just let the Mexicans take over most of the distribution of their cocaine. The Colombian cartels still control production. They have people growing coca for them in Colombia, Peru and Bolivia. They produce the cocaine and sell it to the Mexicans who distribute it within this country. They lay low and stay out of the public eye, but Colombian cocaine production is about as high as ever. Cocaine is relatively cheap and pure now and as easily available as it ever was. We were a lot less successful than you might think.
