Senators negotiating a final compromise economic stimulus package said the House of Representatives and Senate agreed Wednesday on a $789.5 billion package that scales back tax breaks for new car and home buyers while restoring some cuts in state education aid and health care.

But after the announcement, a joint conference committee meeting scheduled for 3 p.m. was postponed after House Democrats did not show up.

This is old news.

Happened hours ago and they came to a final agreement later.

I understand $500M to pay for Republican backbones was also deleted from the bill.

and the (R)s made no complaint. Snarnin Arlin hit the happy hour with all of his bud (R) friends. They all left with smiles & thought about the next purge that they will do to the sheeple - as they know their only protest is a stupid E-Mail.

Somebody figured out that there is no such thing as a Republican backbone. The RATs didn't want to get caught cheating in an audit.

Rather than waste the money, it has been allocated for the purchase of more left wing bleeding hearts. Those will be rationed under the new socialist "healthcare" provisions.

Arlen shows the consequences of a bilateral orchiectomy. Not to mention his proud membership in the invertebrate kingdom.

“I understand $500M to pay for Republican backbones was also deleted from the bill.”

Perhaps you do not understand that only three Republicans (well, rinos) voted for the bill...from both houses of congress! This in spite of the fact the lib media, Obama, and his administration have demonized them. The public is solidly behind the little dictator and the Republicans took a serious risk in fighting this bill. So, maybe show a little backbone and give some support for real courage that our Republican congressmen and senators are showing.

Well, I'm glad that you can make some sense of all this!
Congress has become a 3-ring circus......we are SO screwed.

Did Reid Roll Pelosi?

From the link above:

Even Senate Democrats seemed a little flummoxed. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.), briefing reporters after the Reid presser, stopped short of actually saying he was 100 percent sure a deal had been cut.

It ain't much, but it's all we got. I intend to keep making calls, especially to blue dog democrats.

I'm opposed to this monstrosity as a whole, but they can't even get their compromises right. They stripped tax credits which would directly lead to new consumption and replaced them with even MORE social welfare spending? Even if you accept keynesian logic on the crisis, that makes no sense.

FR Thread: Did Reid Roll Pelosi

Here's the money quote:

“[Senate Democrats] don’t know everything that’s in the bill,” said a laughing Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.), chairman of the Ways and Committee. “So I’m afraid to go to that damned conference.”

The Democrats know its a bad deal and don’t care. Its got pork in it for african americans ($4.5 billion for Acorn), Hispanics (easy immigration and giveaways), the unions and elderly. They want to enact the New Deal with this stimulus bill so they can hope that with it, they will control the House and the Senate for the next 40 years just like FDR did. Call me cynical, but I believe the Dems don’t care that this bill is loaded with pork as long as it promotes their ability to rule.
