There is nothing like raising the sales tax rate during a deflation to accelerate the economy into depression. Folks, it’s 1930 all over again.
Hmmm... do I crank the “depression countdown” a notch or leave it as is?

Okay, I’m officially discouraged. It made no difference on the federal level, why should we think it can make a difference on the state level?

Don't read their lips when California's Republican lawmakers say 'no new taxes' they've put it in writing, signed their names, essentially inviting their own party to oust them if they renege. Every GOP lawmaker except Fair Oaks Assemblyman Roger Niello has signed the "Taxpayer Protection Pledge" this year, casting a shadow on budget talks by making any vote to raise taxes a potential career killer. "If you break the pledge, the people who voted for you will say, 'Excuse me, not only did you raise my taxes but you lied to me,' " said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, in Washington, D.C., which conducts the pledge drive nationwide. The tax pledge, whose signers are publicized on the group's Web site, is a written promise to voters that "I will oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes."

Every Republican has signed a ‘no new tax’ pledge, except Niello. We can defeat this if they all vote no!

I’ve sent my State Senator an email, and have called his local office (left a voice mail message with my cell number) I’ll also call my State Assembly representative. I’m not just sitting still for this BS.

Awesome! Thanks. I’ve been on the phone myself.

I spoke with his office in Sacramento (Aanestad). He’s not supporting this budget proposal because of the tax increases. I’m now going to contact my state assembly person - this proposal must go down to defeat.

Is it time to make a “Depression Clock”, similar to the Doomsday Clock? I’d say we’re getting awfully close to 11:58PM on the Depression Clock these days...

You can also head off taxes by decreasing consumption. The less you buy/drive, the less taxes you pay.

I’ve also called my state assemblyman and registered my disapproval of this budget proposal. I was told my assemblyman is against the tax increases as well. Here’s to hoping this goes down to defeat. I’m going to call the Governor’s office to register my position with him too.

If you enjoy that kind of thing fine, but its a sad day if we have to stay home and grow our own food to avoid taxes!

Why are the taxpayers of California paying for Schwarzenegger to have a Washington D.C. office?

My friend, the priorities of this state are so screwed up, I don’t even know where to start!! Why are we paying for healtcare and education for millions of Mexican citizens? California’s budgets are so packed with pork and giveaways that it would make John Murtha blush.
To: americanophile
THE ONLY WAY TO HEAD OFF THESE TAX INCREASES IS PRESSURE FROM TAXPAYERS! Or just move the hell out of there. Ever thought of that?

Yes, all the time...I just don’t feel like I should have to leave my home because of the G.D. Democrats!

I just dont feel like I should have to leave my home because of the G.D. Democrats! I hear your anger. If it was only the wife and I, we probably would have elected to stay put in Cali. As it is, we've got four little ones to make decisions for, and couldn't, in good conscience make that choice for them.
We're in the Dallas area now, and couldn't be more comfortable with our re-location choice. Conservatives are actually welcome here, and the state's budget is balanced.
