A spokesman for Dominos, who recently announced their profits were up 33 per cent, said: "In that particular area of Birmingham there are a large number of Muslims so there is naturally more of a demand for halal based products.

For meat to be deemed Halal, it must meet certain conditions. These include that the animal should be killed by having its throat cut by a Muslim and any flowing blood of the carcase should be completely drained.

Masood Khawaja, President of the Halal Food Authority, said: "It's good news for Muslims, with changing pallets, who want a bit of variety in their diet. This is only the beginning and we are delighted that Domino's has participating in this trend."

A popular pizza chain has outraged customers after taking pork off the menu and replacing it exclusively with halal meat.

Domino's Pizza has opened the first halal-only pizza store in Britain, catering for the needs of Muslim customers in the mixed race area of Hall Green, Birmingham.

But some customers claim the move is discriminatory and alienates non-muslims.

Mr Khawaja said when he first moved to Britain, curry houses and Arabic restaurants were the only eateries catering for muslims.

'For those who aren't happy about it I would say to them that the only change to the menu is pork and all the other meat tastes the same.   

'I do believe in choice but is hard to segregate pork and halal in such a small store - pork is like a nut allergy to Muslims.' 
 

The HFA licenses slaughterhouses, distribution centres and retailers while auditing and monitoring the compliance of Islamic laws and EC regulations of slaughter.

There are close to three million Muslims living in the United Kingdom and the Halal meat industry is today a multi billion pound industry.

I'm not sure why they wouldn't want to make money off the Muslim-dominated population in that area.

It doesn't mean Domino's is going to change their menu in all areas. Why would they?

I suppose it’s Dominos right to serve Halal foods but it is not being tolerant of those who prefer non-halal food. We accomodate to the point where we wipe out our own cultures because Muslims like to whine and be more aggressive in their protests.

In the 90’s I took several evening walks down Pepsi Cola Boulevard in al Khobar Saudi Arabia, past all the flower shops with all the fantastic house plants. I would walk by the Domino’s Pizza shop. At prayer time, it was like all the other businesses except the bank ATM’s, closed. All the Philippinos who made and delivered the pizzas were out sitting on the curb till it was over.

It never occured to me that there was a pork problem . They made tons of pizza and sold them like gangbusters, all pork free I’m sure.

A quick business search on yell.com shows five other pizza takeaways in a one mile radius of this one. Anyone doesn’t like what they’re selling they can go elsewhere. If the restaurant has made an unpopular move, they lose money.
