Panned over pork takeaway

Halal of an idea ... Domino's pizza

Halal of an idea ... Domino's pizza

TAKEAWAY giant Domino's has pizza-ed off customers by taking pork off the menu and serving only HALAL meat.

The group have opened the first halal-only pizza store in the country, catering to the needs of Muslim customers in the mixed race area of Hall Green, Birmingham.

The controversial menu change means Brummie pizza lovers hoping to tuck into classic pizzas like a Hawaiian with ham and pineapple will be disappointed.

Instead, they will have to travel over two miles to the next closest Domino's branch, something which has angered some non-Muslim customers who say they are being discriminated against.

Angry

One disgruntled punter Chris Yates, 29, a hospital worker living in Moseley said he was told he couldn't have a "Meteor" pizza, topped with pepperoni, sausage, meatballs, ground beef and smoky bacon, when he called up at the weekend.

"It's a disgrace, I can appreciate them having it as an option but to have it completely halal is just not on."

Halal items on the menu include halal spicy beef sausage, roast and tandoori chicken, halal pepperoni and halal cured turkey – all produced and stored within the Halal Food Authorities guidelines.

A spokesman for Domino's, who recently announced profits were up 33 per cent, said: "In that particular area of Birmingham there are a large number of Muslims so there is naturally more of a demand for halal based products.

"We appreciate we cannot please everybody but there are alternatives, such as turkey ham, and we have thought long and hard about this decision and we are sure it is the right one."

"In a society that promotes racial and religious integration, this sort of things only isolates people."

While Peter Merholz, 38, from Hall Green, added: "This is a global pizza chain that is isolating western values and choice. It's alienating people and that's just not on.

The change intends to appeal to the area's Muslim customers.

For meat to be deemed Halal, it must meet certain conditions. These include that the animal should be killed by having its throat cut by a Muslim and any flowing blood of the carcase should be completely drained.

Masood Khawaja, President of the Halal Food Authority, said: "It's good news for Muslims, with changing pallets, who want a bit of variety in their diet. This is only the beginning and we are delighted that Domino's has participating in this trend."

I'm not sure why they wouldn't want to make money off the Muslim-dominated population in that area.

It doesn't mean Domino's is going to change their menu in all areas. Why would they?

We have several pizza operations in this area that vend halal pizza. Been here for years in fact. If you take a close look at what your local neighborhood pizzeria is serving it might be halal too.

The trick is to purchase CHEAPER turkey based processed meat.

I suppose it’s Dominos right to serve Halal foods but it is not being tolerant of those who prefer non-halal food. We accomodate to the point where we wipe out our own cultures because Muslims like to whine and be more aggressive in their protests.

Of course Domino's and any other company should be able to cater to the wishes of local customers, it's just that in this case it's another example of how muslims won't integrate into a preexisting culture and everyone else must change in order to accommodate them.

That was my point. No one's having to change here other than those local Domino's who have chosen to in order to to make more money.

Not exactly....the local customers can no longer get their favorite pizzas there and they have to go two miles away. It’s another example of muslim ‘culture’ supplanting the culture that was once there.

Well, I imagine Dearborn Michigan also caters more to the Muslim community than Peachtree City, GA because that's where the money is in that community.

I imagine downtown LA may cater more to the Koreans than the whites as well.

The point is that Koreans don’t typically demand that a preexisting business get rid of their non-Korean foods....there aren’t Korean pressure groups that want to eliminate American culture wherever they can. Koreans will open up their own Korean-oriented businesses whereas muslims will cry and moan instead, and applaud when Western businesses change to accommodate them. Islam makes no secret of the fact that it’s goal is world domination, and every change like this furthers that goal. Koreans don’t have an agenda of taking over the world, and they are noted for being excellent neighbors that integrate well into existing communities.

I would gladly travel 10 miles just to stay away from a Muslim Pizza parlor.

Just ignore the place, It will go away.

I would as well, but it’s just a shame that the non-muslim customers are now forced to go miles away now when they didn’t have to before.

They should get a franchise and open up next door.

An excellent plan, although local Government types might block such a business opening up next door as being “provocative” and “racially insensitive”.

Islam makes no secret of the fact

I agree that Islam has an agenda. So far we have very few Muslim-dominated areas in the US.

But I can't fault a business for catering to the Muslims in their area.

The Koreans do mix fairly well, but they still eat a certain way and the restaurants in their area serve their kind of food.

And the Koreans don’t have an agenda that’s threating to Western culture and values whereas Islam does. One Western-style pizza parlor that changes it’s menu to accommodate muslims is not the end of the world by any means. Similarly, a single brick set on the ground in Germany isn’t a big deal either unless you put a lot of them together to build the Berlin Wall. Korean businesses are only there to make money and to serve their communities, which is great, and they don’t have a worldwide agenda of domination.

Oh, brother. I just said that Muslims do have an agenda.

But do expect businesses to NOT serve them the food they like?

Yes, I read that and agree.

Of course they expect businesses to serve them food they like, particularly Western-based businesses that will need to change in order to accommodate them...they're quite happy when this happens, and this happens more and more all the time.

If I were the owner of that Domino's I might consider doing the same thing if my customer base was overwhelmingly muslim, but that doesn't eliminate or negate the bigger picture which is a continual encroachment of a threatening, foreign culture into the West, which has no interest in getting along with others....only of changing others to their culture in any and every way possible.

Yes, any business owner in that situation would.
