(CNN) -- She's being hailed as the "face of the economic crisis," and now Henrietta Hughes has become a household name after reaching out to President Obama on Tuesday in an emotional plea for help.
Her message: My son and I are homeless, and we need immediate help.
"I have an urgent need, unemployment and homelessness, a very small vehicle for my family and I to live in," Hughes told Obama at a town hall rally in Fort Myers, Florida, as he pushed for passage of his stimulus plan in the Senate. "The housing authority has two years waiting lists, and we need something more than the vehicle and the parks to go to. We need our own kitchen and our own bathroom. Please help."
Hughes said she had been homeless after her son lost his job and, subsequently, their home. Although her son has been looking for work, Hughes says, so far, no luck.
The Fort Myers-Coral Gables area -- in heavily Republican Lee County, which went for GOP presidential nominee John McCain in the 2008 election -- has seen record housing foreclosure rates. [snip]

I heard that interview and Obama simply gave her a politicians answer, no personal help. What are they talking about?
Seems like her help came from the private sector, not from Obama.
Edit
Let’s Make a Deal. If Obama scraps his trillion dollar stimulus bill, I will look the other way if congress buy’s her a house and Obama makes her a cabinet secretary.
I fully expect Obama to start asking for wheelchairs to come up to the stage and heal them as he touches their forehead. Then like Benny Hinn, they will have envelope with a donation for his re-election.
Maybe the media will check into whether she is up to date on her taxes. sarc.
The worst part was when Obomination went over and kissed her on the cheek. Some ladies in the audience screamed, as though he was a rock star or something. It was barf-worthy.
That’s nothing, I touched the hem of his garmet and was healed of all my maladies.
Check out the comments on that website before they get taken down. Somebody posted an article about this same family angling for free medical care for the son in 2004 in Rochester, NY. The poster also said they were given a $150,000 house at that time. Looks like they may be a couple of grifters who have played on people’s charitable impulses to get themselves free stuff for years.
And in this highly publicized encounter, Obama is saying free and being charitable is the way to help. There is a element who will abuse anything free and they will still have their hand out when the free ride ends.
Obama should have said we have a jobs or training program coming up that you and your son can benefit from. But Obama seems to think that taking back welfare reform and making low income dependent on government is the answer. Or is this reparations?
The woman characterizes the lazy good for nothing detritus that has grown up in the bottom of the barrel. A culture of bottom scum is destroying the country.
You are so right, I heard the joke many times before I found where it came from. If they have a car, use and drive to where there is work. If they don’t like where they are then God please give them gumption to move!
Got a good chuckle out of that one!
How does Ms Henrietta maintain the website from her soon-to-be-repossessed car?
Coral Gables is in the Miami area, over 100 miles away.

Obviously, all those Republicans made her homeless. There are no homeless people in 100% Democrat areas like Broward and Palm Beach counties. /s
I see John Galt and Henry Bowman have made some replies to poor ‘ol henrietta. LOL
Ok, so Joe the Plumber WAS investigated by the STATE and FED gov, because he wanted gov off his back?
