Human rights, including the right to form political associations, should not be dependent on recognition of the government, in this case the EU. The model just seems wrong.

Sounds very good. This is what Europe (not only they) needs. A pro-freedom, pro-life, pro-individual party!
Not the big-governent "conservatives" and fascist fringe groups that usually define the European "right wing".

Of course it could just have the effect of splintering and weakening whatever conservative movement they do have there. If we were to have a separate pro life party it would just take votes from the Republican party and make it easier for Democrats to win elections. Things are a little different in Europe with their multi-party systems, but splitting the votes up among parties with similar goals does make it easier for bigger parties with totally opposing philosophies to win and dominate the legislative bodies.

Seems to me that this could be a thread which joins many across the continent, not just the Irish. Maybe something that trumps nationalism or local interests of Europeans?

Thank you for the ping - will get to some list pinging in a bit. People need good news!

"Seems to me that this could be a thread which joins many across the continent, not just the Irish. Maybe something that trumps nationalism or local interests of Europeans?" Certainly something prolife/marriage people may be able to rally around. We'll see. I'll try to keep informed about it.

So, what’s the regime in Europe now? Parties have to get a permit from Brussels?
Nice.

That’s what I was thinking. The EU has more power and authority than I realized.

Well, not yet. EU is scarier. But I agree, we are catching up quickly.

Good cannot be proved by being subordinate to evil. There will come a time when we must choose. The sooner the better. You must believe in the power of God to perform good when individuals stand up for what is right.
The longer we put it off the worse will be the consequences. The Civil War is a lesson that we should learn from. Many lost their lives in brutal, bloody battles. Do you think that the Republican party should have remained unborn? Appeasement spawns disaster.
If we seek do make our decisions upon the basis of what is right we may go through a time of great testing but what will we avert?

The conference was organized by the John Paul II Society in Ireland and co-hosted by the pro-life group Human Life International. Libertas founder Declan Ganley said the party is now recognized in all 27 EU countries, the Irish Times reports. The recognition of Ganley's new party was delayed after a member of the Estonian national parliament was erroneously reported to have denied signing papers asking for recognition of the party... At the conference, Ganley assured conference delegates of his opposition to abortion and same-sex "marriage." In earlier opening remarks he had quoted from Pope Benedict XVI's encyclicals Deus Caritas Est and Spe Salvi.
