Tennessee GOP Ousts Traitor; Michael Steele should Follow Suit Nationally
Patriot Room ^ | 2-10-09 | Scott Martin

Tennessee Republicans ousted their Republican in name only, House Speaker Kent Williams from the party Monday, giving up their first majority in 150 years as punishment for banding together with the 49 House Democrats to defeat the GOP-backed candidate. This, combined with another great story of principled GOP leadership today, may be a sign that conservatism is returning to the Republican party on the state level.

Kent Williams was the first Republican speaker in the state in 40 years. But party loyalists were angered that he snapped up the top position by joining all 49 Democrats in January to beat GOP nominee and House Republican Jason Mumpower by one vote.

The decision Monday to banish him resulted in the loss of a 50-49 House majority the Republicans had for just a month. They control the Senate 19-14...

"The politically expedient thing to do would be to overlook whatever he's done," Smith said. "If we claim to stand for something, and we continue to look the other way when people behave in such a manner, it really negates all that we stand for."

Now if only the Republican Party would follow Tennessee's example on the national stage...

I was thinking along the same lines while driving this morning that the GOP should show the door to Spector, Collins and Snowe.

The RATS are beside themselves with hatred of Steele. Olbermann called him everything but the N-word (and he implied it several times). Libs hate a black person who leaves the liberal plantation.

My guess is that Steele will try to coerce them to vote against the bill after conference so they have cover.

Who would take leadership on this? Would it be their state GOP?

GOP should show the door to Spector, Collins and Snowe.

That should have happened 6 years ago under that moron George W Bush and if it had we would probably not be living tin the USSA right now.

Those 3 have been doing this for years and must be brought to account.

The fact that Steele will do nothing is proof positive that the GOP is not worth supporting.

Of course; all blacks are supposed to be white-hating racists who believe that they are owed something. When a black man or woman, like Thomas Sowell, Clarence Thomas, or Condi Rice show conservative trends, they are literally treated as outcasts.

Now I know why I like TN so much and recently bought a small farm just outside Bristol. The men of TN are standing up again as they did at the Revolution. Remember that it was the “over the mountain” men who turned the Revolution in our favor. Now the mountain men can turn the conservative Revolution in our favor. God bless them. Honor and integrity before party.

It comes down to principle. I would rather fight with 5 loyal friends than 20 “acquaintances”. Good show by the Tenn GOP.

Don’t start the CFR crap here. That’s a tinfoil hat distraction.

I’ve been to many a CFR meeting. The CFR doesn’t take positions on anything. It’s members STRONGLY disagree about everything.

It’s like a point-counterpoint society.

Standing up for prinicples of political expediency may result in temporary losses but will more often than not result in long term victories.

My hats off to those who did the difficult right thing versus the easy wrong.
