Bentley Driver Leads L.A. Police on City-Wide Chase

LOS ANGELES — The driver of a white Bentley who led police on a three-hour slow speed chase on Los Angeles freeways has stopped on a street in Universal City north of Hollywood, but has yet to surrender to authorities.

California Highway Patrol and police officers with guns drawn are surrounding the car, which has its trunk open.

Los Angeles police Officer Karen Smith says the chase began shortly before 8 p.m. Monday on Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood before the car pulled over on the same street more than three hours later.

Smith says the driver is wanted for assault with a deadly weapon on his girlfriend and the car has Illinois plates.

Driving less than 40 mph, the driver of the $100,000-plus car began leading officers southbound on the Hollywood Freeway, and kept heading south nearly to the coast, then headed back north before pulling over near where the chase began.

Well the chase is over and the person killed himself. It's not every day you see a car chase with a $100,000+ Bentley.

There were rumors that it might have been Chris Brown because of all the trouble he's been in, but it's not.

I wonder who it is. He drove a Bentley, so I presume it's not money the reason he killed himself.

There’s also a rumor that it might of been DJ Kahled of the rap group Terror Squad because of his fond of white Bentley’s. He just left a message on his myspace saying it’s not him.:

It would probably be hard to get a good price for a Bentley now.

About 90 minutes later, television news video showed SWAT team members approaching with guns pulled. They broke the passenger window of the white Mercedes with a crowbar and opened the door.

What? I thought it was a Bentley. Or was there a second expensive car involved in this? Or do I just need more coffee?

Fox News reporting a car chase. If it involved a missing white chick it’d be a twofer!

That's not anything special.

What would be interesting is if he just posted a message saying it was him. (Cue spooky music.) ;-)

The LA Times has more details, such as the fact the driver is in grave condition, and has a description of the driver, thus: "The driver, wearing a close-cropped beard and sunglasses, could be seen on some of the live TV coverage sitting in the front seat of the car for nearly 90 minutes after stopping." It also doesn't say Mercedes anywhere and mentions Bentley and >$100,000.

It was probably a white 1987 Chevy. Like fishermen, the cops always exaggerate a bit.

I’ve wanted a Rolls Royce forever .. the truth is that if you go to a mecca for these cars (Boca Raton , Miami , LA etc.) you can get them cheap ... People that have Rollers don’t have JUST a roller ,, they have 4/5/6 cars ,, a sports car , a luxury car , a SUV , another Luxury car etc. etc. the individual cars get very little mileage... I regularly see 15-20 year old Rollers in Ft. Lauderdale with under 80,000 miles for under $20k ,, they usually look like new ... The funniest thing I ever saw (automotively speaking) was in Coconut Grove ... someone had a roller up on cinder blocks in their yard and it had been there a while with the grass tall around it...
