Depends on two things at the minimum: How well compartmentalized and the person in charge. I myself, tend to think of all human history as one large well constructed multilayered and interconnected conspiracy. God is in charge, of course. But his opponent refuses to recognize or submit to that ultimate authority, for now.
The Father of Lies has many minions, both in that nether world (demonic forces of evil) and willing participants as well as ignorant dupes among us mere mortals to accomplish his short and long term plans. I never understood Satan (although I have done huge business with him, many times) as he knows the Holy Bible backwards and forwards so he must know that in the end....he loses!
He won't be alone, either. He's going to take a huge chunk of mankind down to HELL with him and it won't matter whether they were willing accomplices or unwitting dupes because without Jesus Christ as their advocate, they lose, too.
Do you know without a single doubt where you stand? Time is running out, fast. In the matter of eternal salvation it's better to be a year too early than a second too late.
