Senate Democrats attracted just enough Republican votes to clear a key procedural hurdle for the $838 billion economic recovery bill Monday, as they worked toward hammering out a final version of the legislation by week’s end.
By a vote of 61-36, the Senate voted to cut off debate, setting up a likely vote on final passage Tuesday. Democrats needed a 60-vote majority.
If the bill passes Tuesday as expected, lawmakers will then have to reconcile the differences between the Senate and House versions of the package.
It's time for the "final passage" alright. ;-(
God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.
