If you were wondering why Beyoncé and not Etta James was asked to serenade the president and first lady with "At Last" during their first dance at an inauguration ball on Jan. 20, you're not alone.
Etta, 71, whom Beyoncé went blonde to portray in last year's "Cadillac Records," is wondering the same thing, and she candidly expressed her displeasure during a concert stop in Seattle last week.
"You guys know your president, right?" she asked the crowd amid cheers (listen to it here. "You know the one with the big ears? Wait a minute, he ain't my president, he might be yours, he ain't my president. You know that woman he had singing for him, singing my song -- she's gonna get her a-- whipped. The great Beyoncé ... But I can't stand Beyoncé. She has no business up there, singing up there on a big ol' president day ... singing my song that I've been singing forever."

Conservative or liberal, shut up and sing.
Beyonce = guilty as hell when she sings
She might have been an okay model. She’s a hideous singer. Absolutely hideous.
You’re right about that
It takes balls, or ovaries or whatever for Etta to say what she says. Kind of like Bridgette Bardot or Orianna Fallaci speaking out against muslims. Courage is rare but not altogether absent.
Sounds a little like sour grapes to me. Although she does definately have more of a right to sing her own song than Beyonce does, so I can understand her attitude. However I do love the negative publicity she’s giving Obama even though it will be spun like a top by MSM.
Ditto to what you said. That is one of my all time favorite songs.
“He’s not MY President either!”
Gee, I remember when fellow Freepers were so pissed at liberals who said this about Bush. Called it Bush Derangement Syndrome, I believe.
I saw her at a bluesfest a few years back with BB King and Buddy Guy, among others. She put on a good show.
How is this any different than that lard ass with Heart complaining about Baracuda being used at the RNC convention and various Palin rallies a few months ago?
Etta James should be grateful she was immortalized in a movie.
Maybe she should let somebody ‘Upgrade’ her, eh?
I guess that is Beyonce in the second picture with this article. What the heck is that on her hand? Is she a Borg of some sort?
The Slim Black Duke can’t have an old bag o’ bones serenading him, can he? It wouldn’t fit his image as the youthful face of hope for America.
Support Etta!
Etta James for some reason made me think of Betty LaVette’s performance at the Kennedy Center Honors (singing the Who’s Reign Down On Me). Highlight of the evening.
Either way the politics go if I pay for a ticket then shut up and sing.
And maybe she didn't like a song that had personal meaning for her appropriated by a politician. Its happened before.
It would be like comparing BB King or Johnny Lee Hooker playing and singing a song.... and Lenny Kravitz singing the blues....
Like a fine wine, a good cigar or scotch..... you can't manufacture aging, it is what it is.
Beyonce is a good singer, has a good work ethic and can entertain..... Etta has about 40-50 years of broken hearts, good love gone bad, dreams realized or lost and just life to add to her song..... when they sing from the heart and leave it all on stage, it's a thing to see and hear.
As for the comments about Obama being their president or "our" president. Unfortunately he's "all of our" president. That's what our country is all about. That's why we have elections and why voter fraud is a crime, unless committed by a democrat.
It sucks, he's a douche bag surrounded by turds but he's our douche bag. I'll just grit my teeth, work hard and rest assured that Obama the douche, like Jimmy the Idiot and Billy the Blow Job President will fade into footnotes in between great Presidents.
SLAM. A two for one- beyonce and bambi. Etta out dixie chicked the dixie chicks.
IMHO, you might have just written someone's new FR Tagline.!!!!
Yes, it has, and to much derision from FReepers.
