PARISI: Democrats' call for civility 8 years late

Peter J. Parisi THE WASHINGTON TIMES
February 4, 2009

ANALYSIS/OPINION:

The day before Barack Obama's inauguration as president, "Purple Nation" columnist Lanny Davis pleaded on this page for a return to civility in our nation's politics.

Mr. Davis, a proudly self-professed liberal Democrat, announced his co-founding of what he is calling the Civility Project in a bid "to change the polarizing, attack-oriented political culture that has become all too common in recent years and, instead, to bring civility back as the staple of American politics and life."

Sorry, Lanny, as worthy as your aims may be, that horse fled the barn long ago. And it was your side that battered down the barn door.

Beginning shortly after President Bush assumed office in January 2001 and running through his departure from the White House eight years later, Democrats directed nonstop invective at Mr. Bush, and his call for a "new tone" in Washington went unheeded on the left.

From "selected, not elected" to then-Rep. Richard A. Gephardt of Missouri calling Mr. Bush "a miserable failure" in September 2003 to Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid calling him a "loser" during a civics discussion with a group of teenagers at a high school in May 2005 to Howard Dean's many rants to the MoveOn crowd likening him to Adolf Hitler, the political incivility of "recent years" Mr. Davis decries has originated almost entirely on his side of the political aisle.

For the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee now to feign outrage (for fundraising purposes) at radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh's saying "I hope he fails," referring to President Obama's socialist economic agenda, takes some serious chutzpah - even for the DCCC.

And, no...

Yes he will. I do have grave concerns about our elected officials. Once rolling over becomes the norm, it’s tough to remember what not doing it was like.

We have too many people who run cover for the left too.

1. 90% bad bill comes up
2. Republicans voice concern
3. RINO suggests 1 to 2% of changes and pronounces the bill fixed.
4. Everyone jumps on board the happy train.
5. We wind up with a bill that is 88% bad

There is absolutely no genetic resemblance there whatsoever. Whoever Obama’s real paternal grandmother is, I’d be surprised as all hell if it was her. Obama Sr. does look like her, Obama Jr., not even a little. Rosemary’s Baby.

I plan on treating the Obama administration the same way the left treated President Bush for eight years.

And it’s only been two weeks and they are complaining. Wait until we really get started on Obama. Let’s see how they like it then!

I seem to remember they all thought Pres. Bush was stupid. Well, look who they elected! Obama has no clue what he is doing as we have witnessed in this week alone.

It’s going to be a long four years and I hope they are ready for it! Obama’s poll numbers may be lower than Pres. Bush in under a month on the job!

"But the man who directed him to do so has still refused to tell the truth to the American people, which is Vice President Cheney. And that's why I am sympathetic to Mr. Libby taking the fall for the man who hides behind, in darkness, never telling the truth, never telling us what happened."

lanny, lanny, lanny, where was this spirit of civility over the last 8 years?

What is the admonition, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Well, we've been done unto for the longest time and as they say paybacks are a michelle obama.

Enjoy!

Lanny Davis is the typical shyster lawyer who’d sell his Grandma for $20 and an appearance on nightly news.

Yep, slimy

I can't stand his voice either.

When I see him talking on television it gives me the creeps, he is so good at what he does. Like Schumer, can't stand listening to him either.

He may be a friend of Bush, but he is a cowardly backstabber.

The good thing is, we don't have to taunt and call names, just point out gaffs and facts.

Then we'll be denounced as racists. The left has gone beyond the point of being able to reason with it. You can't reason with Marxists, IMHO.

Last night on the Rachel Maddow Show, “Reagonomics 1981 (year ?) to 2009” graced the the bottom of the TV Screen while she talked about Maddof and other scandals. The Left can’t stop the invectiveness and name calling very easily; they live on this nonsense. Lanny Davis can clean up his side first.

Mr. Davis, a proudly self-professed liberal Democrat, announced his co-founding of what he is calling the Civility Project...

How much is he paying himself to chair this project?
