WASHINGTON - Sen. Jim DeMint and Gov. Mark Sanford urged members of the Senate on Wednesday to reject President Barack Obama's economic-stimulus bill, as DeMint introduced a rival measure he said required only tax cuts.
Sanford, in Washington for a Republican Governors Association meeting, asked Republican senators at a Capitol Hill lunch convened by DeMint to follow the lead of House Republicans who voted against the $819 billion stimulus measure last week.
The bill passed the House by a 244-188 margin without a single Republican vote. It would bring South Carolina $3.2 billion, including a $905 million to eliminate a state budget deficit and $830 million to build and repair roads, bridges, schools, colleges, universities, water-treatment plants and other infrastructure.
Sanford and DeMint said they are joining forces in a bid to try to spark the kind of national outcry among conservatives that led to the defeat of a major Senate immigration-reform bill in 2007.

But, I'm okay now.
Cedric, let me remind you that this is only the latest PR stunt by McCain. Remember what we talked about?
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2176636/posts?page=159#159
McCain has done over 13 TV appearances in the last 48 hours and many in prime time. He’s grabbed HUGE eyeballs for an alternative stimulus plan that doesn’t yet exist. But his position keeps the only Republican alternative (DeMint/Sanford) from getting coverage in MSM nightly news broadcasts because they’re only going to present ONE Republican alternative to Obama’s plan.
Watch this and you’ll see exactly what we were talking about where McCain’s ego leads him into lot so talking, no action, and PR undercutting.
Heck, just giving every American the 7 grand the bill is costing everybody would make a big difference....:)
We would feel a lot more secure!
McCain is, literally, a loser. He has the taint of recent defeat upon him.
He may get support from a few other RINOs but who cares?
P.S.
Welcome back to my Free Republic.
Oh, I defaced the image?
LOL.
The "defaced" image is all over Google images. And I didn't even make it! Hell, other Freepers use it (or similar images) every so often.
Perhaps you're just sad because your boy McQueeg lost...and keeps losing.
Why is nobody complaining about paying Federal "stimulus" money to states to balance their budgets? Isn't this an overthrow of the rule of law? This is not legal but nobody cares because "it just has to be done>' How do the states balance their budgets next time? Go back to the Federal treasury? The states are losing their sovereignty and the Federal government is becoming the end all and be all.
Just like Russia, state governors will soon be appointed by the president because the sovereign states will have dissolved into "administrative districts."
We have been conquered, folks. Our government is being re-drafted and re-constructed by those in Washington DC under the guise of being good for the public interest.
Who would of thought that our constitution was advisory!
John McCain.... give me my donations back. You lied and you are an incompetent fool. Shut up and retire!
The fact that you lack the requisite creativity and skill to deface the image does not absolve you of guilt for using it.
Lack the "creativity and skill"? No, or maybe I'm smart enough to realize that reinventing the wheel every single time I need to use it is just plain stupid.
In the meantime, here's another image for you:
Hey rabs, how’s that guilt complex thingy workin’ out for you? LOL!
LOL!
I love Sarah but I agree, on principle, Sanford is more solid.
SC people prefer BOTH!
People in AZ believe in McPain as much as the Kansans did in Bob Dole. Alas, NC didn’t feel the same about “Liddy”.
At least you're (minimally) smart enough to refrain from posting any of your many infantile graphics so soon after (falsely) accusing me of be childish.
Laughably and predictably, however, some members of your anti-McCain-fetish posse took the bait, hook, line and sinker.
be = being
