Kidnapped Pole - why not send in GROM?
Created: 04.02.2009 14:26
As the Taliban deadline looms, many call for Poland to send its equivalent to the SAS to the Pakistani lawless borderlands.
Wednesday sees the deadline delivered to the Pakistani government by kidnappers of a Polish engineer who was abducted last September.
Family and friends of Piotr Stanczak, an engineer working for a mining company in Pakistan, call for the foreign ministry to be more actively involved in his release.
There is nothing more we can do," says Pawel Gras of the ruling Civic Platform (PO) party, underlining, that "this tragic case" has been monitored from the very beginning by Polands anti-terrorist agency
Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said that the situation is extremely difficult, as Stanczak is being kept on a lawless area, where constant battles between the Taliban and Pakistani forces take place. The prime minister reminded that the Pole is not the only one kidnapped in the region - UN staff and Chinese telecommunications engineers are also being held.
The Taliban relased 29 Pakistani police Wednesday morning, according to latest reports.
When asked why Polish special forces - known by the acronym GROM - cannot be sent to liberate the man, Pawel Gras merely said that, There is no information where exactly he is. Getting permission from the Pakistani authorities to intervene in such a way would also be difficult.
The engineer's former partner and mother to his 13 year old child complained, yesterday, on private radio that his case is being neglected by Polands Foreign Ministry, adding that if the story has a tragic end, she will call for a detailed report about measures that were taken to solve the case. The Pakistani Taliban are calling for the release of several Islamic radicals from jail or else they will kill the Pole. The deadline runs out at midnight tonight.
Why haven’t we simply nuked them yet? For all we know, radiated oil might make for more efficient gasoline. FDR would have nuked them by now.
the best argument yet for simply killing Islamic radicals instead of putting them in prison.
