Chief Performance Officer: Nancy Killefer
By Alyssa Fetini Friday, Jan. 09, 2009

Washington is about to get its first official waste watchdog. President-elect Barack Obama recently tapped Nancy Killefer to fill the newly created role of chief performance officer. Killefer, a senior director at management-consulting firm McKinsey & Co., will be in charge of combing through the federal budget to weed out unnecessary programs and streamline government efficiency.

The position, which Obama has described as one of the most important in his Administration, is part of a new initiative to control federal spending, reform massive government entitlement programs and curb the pork-barrel spending that has contributed to the country's budget-deficit crisis.

Fast Facts:

• She took a hiatus from her work at McKinsey from 1997 to 2000 to serve as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Clinton Administration, where she led a major modernization of the Internal Revenue Service. Clinton later appointed her to the IRS Oversight Board.

Well most of their voters don't have jobs so they don't get the chance to cheat on their taxes.

I'd like to apply for the job of "Chief Performance Officer." My tax filings are clean.

He doesn’t count, he only writes the tax laws. How could he know what is taxable and what’s not? Another not funny joke.

Obama: Enough Of This Crap

This is FOUR people who you’ve appointed that can’t pay their damn taxes, including your Treasury Secretary?

The latest is that Daschle has withdrawn, of course.

CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN?

I’ll tell you what would be change. Since it appears that a huge percentage of the current and former Congressional delegation has cheated on its taxes - after all, what are the odds you only picked the tax cheats, if you want me to believe in your idea of CHANGE you will immediately order all member of Congress in both Houses to undergo full IRS audits all the way back to the Statute of Limitations (three years), along with all of their staff.

You and I know know it won’t happen, but I’ll tell you what - I keep hearing people say they’re going to file absolute crap this year. Utter garbage. “The Dog ate my Schedule C.”

If The American People do this, Mr. President, government funding will collapse. The IRS can’t possibly audit everyone and we all know it.

Your administration is dangerously close to creating a full-on tax revolt among Americans. You would not believe how often I have heard this among people both online and off in the last couple of weeks. The anger, especially when the people who are cheating are folks like Daschle and Geithner, is VISCERAL - these are the people who both wrote the tax code and were involved in the bailouts and handouts which you expect we the people - ordinary Americans - to pay for.

I file and pay every year exactly what I owe. No cheating, no games, no BS. I spend upwards of a full week preparing and checking my tax return to make sure that I pay every dollar that is due (but not one more!) But now we discover that every day another one of your appointees in your “new day” for Washington DC has cheated on their taxes and in the case of Daschle and Geithner they knew they owed the money and didn’t pay until you tapped them?

Against this backdrop you expect ordinary Americans to file and pay for bankster bailouts to cover the fraudulent actions of the banking and securitization industry?

You might want to rethink this one, and I can come up with only two ways to do it:

* Audit EVERY Congressperson and EVERY staffer in your administration, including yourself. Everyone, all the way back to the statute of limitations, with the results of those audits made public.
* Ditch the IRS and the current tax system entirely (mooting the question) and move the nation to The Fair Tax, thereby firing all the tax lobbyists and game-players in DC and elsewhere.

Frankly I prefer #2 but #1 is acceptable.

“Do nothing”, on the other hand, may well NOT be accepted by The American people.

If what I hear in my day-to-day the patience of “The People” is about done.

So far Killefer has proved to be both the smartest and dumbest of the Obama appointees to withdraw. She withdrew before the coverage got too public or brutal = smart; her tax problem was under one measyly grand = dumb. If you’re going to have a tax issue, make it worthwhile, like Daschle.

I’ve noted elsewhere on this topic that Ms. Killefer’s employer, McKinsey & Co., is coincidentally the same one that hired Chelsea Clinton right out of school at about double the salary offered her comparably experienced peers.
Small, small world, isn’t it ?

"Aren’t there any dems who haven’t cheated on their taxes?"

This is why democrats have no problem in raising taxes. They don't pay taxes.

I thought this was why we had a congress?

Would this be a violation of the separations of powers? An executive position to monitor and try to control the legislative?

Maybe, we should start reporting these obviously illegal tax evasions by rats to the IRS and to the following site.

http://www.rewardtax.com/

Former IRS Attorneys for Tax Whistleblower Rewards
Tax Whistleblower Reward Program
The United States of America Will Pay Huge Rewards to Anyone Who Exposes the Under reporting of Tax

THE PROBLEM: Billions of Dollars in Unpaid Taxes
In the United States of America, a small percentage of taxpayers (i.e., individuals, businesses, trusts, and estates) underreport and fail to pay up to $400 billion in taxes every year, according to a study released by the Internal Revenue Service. This small group is comprised of an elitist group of wealthy Americans and businesses who neglect or refuse to pay their fair share of tax and who undermine the stability of the country to satisfy their own personal greed. This missing revenue causes unnecessary increases in annual deficits, national debt, and national interest payments. In the end, this missing revenue must be made up by honest Americans through higher taxes.

Each year, the United States is forced to spend over $11 billion to finance IRS enforcement efforts aimed at catching individuals and corporations who underreport and fail to pay tax. However, the schemes, devices, and shelters used by these individuals and corporations to avoid the payment of tax have become so sophisticated that efforts by the IRS to detect them have failed. As a result, the annual amount of unreported and unpaid tax has steadily grown each year. Confronted with the devastating effect of the ongoing and systematic underreporting of tax by individuals and corporations, the United States is taking a new approach to enforcement efforts aimed at detecting the underreporting and nonpayment of tax.

THE SOLUTION: The American People
In recently enacted legislation (December 2006), Congress turned to the American people to expose taxpayers (i.e., individuals, businesses, estates, and trusts) who underreport and fail to pay tax. The United States has announced that it will reward any person who provides information that leads to the identification of $2 million or more of unreported tax, including interest and penalties. This new legislation guarantees that any person who provides information under this “Tax Whistleblower Reward Program” will receive a minimum of 15%, and a maximum of 30%, of the amount that the IRS actually collects. The new law, which provides a potential “windfall” to honest Americans who expose those who underreport and fail to pay tax, is known as the IRS Whistleblower Reward Program.

If you have information regarding a taxpayer (i.e., an individual, business, estate, or trust) that under reported or failed to pay tax, you will be rewarded by the United States for providing such information. Contact us NOW to start the process of identifying tax avoidance and obtaining your reward! Your confidentiality is guaranteed!

Posts like this one continue to validate my 2009 tagline.

Aloha Dave!

So that's the face of the IRS that I'd had dealings with back in 2001.

In the final distributions of my father's estate, there was an investment in Smith Barney that lagged and lolled. When it was done, taxes were withheld and submitted to the IRS and the balance distributed to the heirs. A month later I got a letter, a bill (for the amount that was withheld and sent to the IRS ) demanding payment within 30 days to avoid interest and penalties.

It took 8 months to clear up this mess. They admitted they already had the money.

Then....the sent a similar bill to my brother.
