I do recall reading it but don't remember where, I thought maybe you'd be willing to help and provide a link to what you are saying. I would like to get to the truth of this matter, what ever way it turns out, I am just not convinced either way.

Since a friend spend time in Indonesia in the 80's, I read up on travel to Indonesia. I don't recall seeing anything about laws against such travel. Searching brings up several travel articles from that period. Are you sure you're not recalling postings that Americans couldn't travel to Pakistan in 1981? I remember seeing some posts say that was the case. (Though I haven't seen any links to substantiate that.)
