Since a friend spend time in Indonesia in the 80's, I read up on travel to Indonesia. I don't recall seeing anything about laws against such travel. Searching brings up several
travel articles from that period. Are you sure you're not recalling postings that Americans couldn't travel to Pakistan in 1981? I remember seeing some posts say that was the case. (Though I haven't seen any links to substantiate that.)

I was evidently mistaken on that point, I don't know where I read that. I've done a little research and have not found anything that says travel to Indonesia was restricted, maybe I did confuse it with Pakistan.
