Yes these are adult stem cells from yourself. The patient is their own donor. Its basically a reset of the immune system in a way. There are 2 kinds (Allogeneic and Autologous ) Autologous = self donated Stem Cells. Allogeneic = Someone Else's stem cells. With Allogeneic transplants the stem cells come from a live donor or even donated umbilical cord blood that is high in stem cells but NOT embryonic cells. Its some really cool stuff, but I honestly wish I didn't know anything about Stem Cell transplants.
I wonder if Allogeneic SCT would also provide curative effects.
