"This is why I was never fond of praying to Saints. No matter how saintly a life one lead on Earth, in the end, they were men and women. The Apostles, the original Saints took great care in intimating that it was not about them but Christ."

Why do people pray to saints when they can pray to Jesus?

Are they getting put on hold, or what?

The saints are finite beings who may care a lot, but don't care 1% about you as much as Jesus does.

And so here we see the re-emergence of the old death cult dressed up as a robed female figure that glamorizes death.

Nancy Pelosi?

“Why do people pray to saints when they can pray to Jesus? “

In my experience - this continuous debate boils down to whether or not you believe deceased christians are capable of intercessory prayer.

Most christians (not all) agree that while we are on earth, we pray directly to Jesus as well as praying FOR each other.
And when we do it, we don’t consider it an insult to Him because we figure the more prayer the better.

Likewise, If I feel I’m in the need of some help, I can do both - I can pray directly to Jesus, and I can also ask others to pray for me.
We see prayer requests here on FReeper all the time.

Catholics do not believe this ceases upon death.
Catholics believe that souls who behold the beatific vision - who are living in heaven with God are also performing intercessory prayer for souls on earth.

So it isn’t really “worshipping” the saints as we have been accused of.
We are asking for intercession.

“This is why I was never fond of praying to Saints. No matter how saintly a life one lead on Earth, in the end, they were men and women. The Apostles, the original Saints took great care in intimating that it was not about them but Christ.”

And there isn’t anything in the teaching concerning saints that contradicts this.

Some good Catholic should send this article to the Pope so he can tell the Bishops in Mexico to get their act straightened out.

why?

This has nothing to do with catholics - or the catholic church.

Do you really think these people consider themselves catholic?

good grief!

So the bishops can order the priests to talk about it at mass - but the folks sitting in mass aren’t the pagans worshipping this fake goddess.

This sounds very similar to Santaria - which also is not catholic - but pagan.
And the bishops don’t have anything to do with that either.

They could - of course - urge the faithful to pray for these people.

I am catholic and believe completely in the Santa muerte. It is not pagan at all. Whoever believes this is just not fully aware of her meaning. First become informed before you open your mouth because you sound like a fool.
Why do you fear her if she is the same one who will take you when you die?

NOT everyone is a drug dealer or a pagan. Its a belief which should be respected just as all others. Ignorant people like you are why religion is the way it is.

“Its a belief which should be respected just as all others.”

Sorry, but that is the same old commie, post modern, post structuralist argument we FReepers have made jokes about.

Some beliefs simply are antithetical to, and irreconcilable with, American beliefs.

Islam is one such belief system. Communism is another. The Santa Muerte “religion” is another.

Sorry, but your religious dog don’t hunt.
