Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has endorsed Rick Perry for re-election, calling him the "true conservative" in a primary election showdown with fellow Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Palin, who electrified the GOP base as the party's vice presidential nominee last year, has strong support among the party's social conservatives. Her endorsement appeared aimed at undercutting Hutchison's appeal with GOP women. Both groups will be important in picking the party's nominee in next year's Republican primary.
In a letter to "Texas Republican women" distributed by the Perry campaign, Palin touts the Texas governor's conservative credentials.
"He walks the walk of a true conservative. And he sticks by his guns and you know how I feel about guns," she said.
Palin cited one of the Perry campaign's top issues opposition to federal financial bailouts. And she singled out Perry's opposition to abortion rights.
"Not every child is born into ideal circumstances, but every life is sacred," Palin said in the mail appeal. "Rick Perry knows this it is at the core of his being."

Hes had 10 years to prove his point.
Perry got less than 40% statewide in his win in 2006. I’ll bet many of the anti TTC won’t come out for him in the primary. This will be an interesting primary should KBH stay in for the race.
Perry lost it for us here in Texas when he ran ads showing him at the border saying that he’d do the right thing. He did the opposite.
His power grab trying to mandate Gaurdicil for 12 year olds was chilling.
His dealings in a NAFTA super highway are suspect as well.
I’m disappointed in some of the things Kay has done in Washinton and the form letters with which she has replied to me.
I would be open to a 3rd option in the primary. Mr Williamson or Mr. Patterson whom are elected to statewide posts would be more agreeable to me.
On many topics, the supposedly intelligent, independent, skeptical FREEPERS ...
Drink the MSM's bathwater and call it fine wine.
I heard abbout this earlier, but just now found the article on FR.
Interesting. I have been waffling on the election this time.
I kinda think he’s been around too long...getting set in his
ways, as it were.
There’s time to think about it, though.
Well, it will be the “lesser of two evils” again. I don’t like Gov Goodhair, but KBH is not much better. I’d rather have her stay in DC and get under dingy hairy’s skin.
I feel your pain.
I would like to see her stay in DC. She has done well there.
I heard that Michael Williams might run in her place for Senate.
He’s from around here, but other than him being the railroad
commissioner, I don’t know much about his stance as a conservative.
I am just loving seeing Hussein’s appointments falling like
veritable dominoes. Makes me smile...and wonder when it’s his
turn to fall. *evil grin*
Just scroll down and see what I mean.
Commissioner Michael Williams is fairly conservative. Many liberal blacks have said he is “off the plantation”, so I think he would be OK. An enemy of my enemy is my friend...
If the liberal blacks don’t like him...I am on his side, too! LOL!
As much as I hate to admit it, Governor Goodhair will probably get my vote.
...calling him the “true conservative”
LOL.
But I wouldn’t name either of them conservative!
Perry is an ex-Democrat who turned Republican back in the ‘90s, IIRC.
He has pretty hair.
Further, deponent sayeth not.
I heard rumors that he won't run, though, as he doesn't think he could raise enough money.
I wish Texans would let him know that he would have a big following, and that we would help raise money for him! He would be absolutely perfect!
I've always been lukewarm about Perry--he's good a lot of the time, then he comes out with something so off the wall and dumb that it takes your breath away.
Patterson won’t jump into this race nor the Senate race, so it looks like we are pretty much stuck with either Perry or KBH. Despite Perry’s black marks, I still think he’s better than Kay.
“Any Texans have a handle on this race?”
Yes, Kay Bailey is such a RINO she makes John McCain look like Duncan Hunter.
Gov. Good Hair is a weak tea, but infinately better than Kay Bailey.
(I also have met Kay Bailey. She’s a complete bitch.)
It’s a false story from AP. She’s against it.
Perry IS a joke. But Kay Bailey is a nightmare.
Thank you both.
So far, I had her picked out as “real”, and am glad I can continue to do so.
Ah, the evil of two lessers!
I like Patterson for Gov (but I dont think he will run for it) and Michael Williams (for Senate).
I still dont know what would happen to Dewhurst, but it would be good if Patterson was our lt gov.
While your points on Perry are valid, and he has been there ‘too long’, he has shaped up as a conservative this session and has been solid on issues like prolife where KBH will be squishy. Trans-Texas Corridor is dead for the most part and he’s doing the right things on budget.
KBH and Combs are the Mod Squad for Texas. If they run the state, we wont be a beacon of conservative activism, but will be more ‘status quo’. Kay has made too many “Club Senate” votes lately, so I’ll watch and see how she does on stimulus etc.
Palin’s endorsement of Perry is a curious one. It seems a bit early to make the endorsement, so maybe it is a shot across the bow to keep Kay out of the race. but I dont think she’ll wait... and I think she may win the primary. She is definitely more popular overall so the one silver lining would be that the Dems would get crushed if she is the nominee.
