Sarah Palin endorses Texas Gov. Rick Perry for re-election
Dallas News ^ | 2-2-09 | Wayne Slater

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has endorsed Rick Perry for re-election, calling him the "true conservative" in a primary election showdown with fellow Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Palin, who electrified the GOP base as the party's vice presidential nominee last year, has strong support among the party's social conservatives. Her endorsement appeared aimed at undercutting Hutchison's appeal with GOP women. Both groups will be important in picking the party's nominee in next year's Republican primary.

In a letter to "Texas Republican women" distributed by the Perry campaign, Palin touts the Texas governor's conservative credentials.

"He walks the walk of a true conservative. And he sticks by his guns – and you know how I feel about guns," she said.

Palin cited one of the Perry campaign's top issues – opposition to federal financial bailouts. And she singled out Perry's opposition to abortion rights.

"Not every child is born into ideal circumstances, but every life is sacred," Palin said in the mail appeal. "Rick Perry knows this – it is at the core of his being."

Yeah, this isn’t a suprise. Honestly I’ve got no sympathy for Kay Barely Republican. Shortly after the election I seem to remember her being one of the ones that couldn’t wait to find a camera and microphone to explain how lots of women like say, Christine Todd Whitman, would be better to have as the face of the party.

Old girl has really lost it.

Of all the politicians I have ever met, from GWB to Mark White, Bill Clements, Ann Richards, Phil Gramm, and countless state and high-ranking military officials, Rick Perry is the biggest ass of them all.

Ok Tex, but don’t be diplomatic- tell me how you really feel. (LOL)

It’s going to be a mess in 2012.

Why is she running against this incumbent governor of the same party?

She's a good politician, and knows a weakened candidate when she sees one. This is as good a chance as she'll get. I have no idea why she would leave the Senate, except that as governor, she'll be working with a far more cooperative bunch than she will as a minority party senator.

Mexico is getting so out of control they may have to demand that border is closed whether they want to or not and with a recession, politically they cannot afford to push for illegals.

Even if Sarah does not run in 2012, and Mark Sanford does, he will lose to Obama as long as people get free money for not having to work. Sean Hannity did a man on the street and asked people who would they rather vote for, someone who believes in being responsible or someone who will give them free money for not having to do a damn thing, well, guess who won. If Obama’s bill passes, the way that it is right now(he’s probably got some more bills coming) then this country as we know it will never be the same again

Did you see the live segments late this afternoon on FOX.
Jonathan Hunt was here in San Diego at the border and in Tijuana riding with the Mexican Army in the streets of TJ.
also showing the battles there over the past months.

I am so disappointed in what has happened to the ethics in this country. What happened to pride and hard work.

Simple, why pay for the cow if you can get the milk for free. Welcome to the new society. People love free, heck who doesn’t, but at what cost, at what cost

My greatest fear is that Sarah will campaign for McCain in Arizona.

My secret desire is that she run against him for the Arizona Senate seat.

“You could spend all day here though, beating down the rumor she is in favor of bailouts.”

For sure. I was going to “ping” Sarah Barracuda to this thread, LOL.

Thank you SB for your defense of Gov. Palin on all these threads here at FR. :)

I have also read that Kay Barely Republican is re-thinking running for governor—she formed an exploratory committee but hasn’t announced yet (at least I don’t think so). I’m guessing getting Palin to endorse him so early, Perry is attempting a pre-emptive strike and hoping to encourage KBH to back off for good. It’ll be interesting.

Now, as to why Sarah would agree-—aside from the fact that, compared to KBH, Perry look conservative, and he shares her views on energy, it’s all about pay-back IMO. Fury of a woman scorned, etc.

How old is KBH anyway? I’ve heard a few people mentioning her as a potential POTUS candidate down the road, but IIRC she’s gettin’ up there and a chance for the national scene may have passed her by already.

The bankers are upset Obama wants to take their bonuses. What did they expect? You sell your soul to the devil and the devil is in charge... same will happen with Universal Healthcare. People have their hands out for freebies but they are not going to like the rules that come with those freebies and those of us who didn’t want our soul sold along with theirs — well we get to go along for the ride.

No she is not. Read her office’s press release yesterday, and her letter to the Alaskan Congessional delegation last week. She regards the stimulus bill as pork laden with items that will not create jobs. She has asked for only five projects (mainly infrastructural) that would have federal funding anyway. Get your fact right, rather than reading AP reports (almost always inaccurate in regard to Gov. Palin.

Apart from finding new ways to spend the money they extort from me, I don’t see any possible need for permanent state legislators.

Absolutely true!!! In fact, I LIKE the fact that the Texas Leg (as Molly Ivins used to refer to them) only gets together once every two years and I'm beginning to think that's a little too often.

I currently find myself in an absurdist nightmare involving school taxes that was created by the Texas Legislature. I now have to deal with the parade of idiots in Austin who created this nightmare to try to get them to fix it!!

What fun.
