The following things happened within 100 hours after Hurricane Katrina smashed into the Louisiana/Mississippi coastline in 2005. The Anchoress wrote:
Before Katrina struck, New Orleans and surrounding areas had been declared disasters by President Bush, who did so in order to expedite the delivery of monies and services needed to cope with what everyone believed would be a very bad storm. Actually, he did the same thing, last year, for Hurricane Charley, and was criticized for doing so by some, but thats not important right now.
Between 2,500 and 3,000 people have been rescued by the Coast Guard, National Guard and First Responders.
National Guard and Regular Army have deployed 50,000 troops the biggest domestic relief effort in U.S. history after Mondays onslaught by killer Hurricane Katrina.
The Navy is sending the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Harry S. Truman to join an armada of vessels off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
The Air Force said it was adding a high-flying U-2 spy plane to the relief effort to take pictures to help relief efforts at the request of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The Army has put on alert roughly 3,000 active-duty ground troops from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to be prepared to deploy to New Orleans The brigade-sized force, likely to be from the 82nd Airborne Division, would engage in crowd control and site-protection activities.
Pipelines are being restored and refineries are beginning to get back into operation.
Levee repairs are underway - reportedly one break has already been fully repaired as of this evening. See You Big Mouth You for Poop about Pumps which is very informative.
Refugees are being taken in in Texas, and the University of Texas, Rice University, Texas A&M, Texas State and Baylor University (and many other schools) are opening their doors to displaced students.
Bill Quick of The Daily Pundit asks acidly:
WHERES FEMA? Nearly 1M without power 5 days after ice storm.
Wheres FEMA? is not the appropriate question. The appropriate question is, Where is the mainstream media, screaming in one united voice, that the absence of FEMA demonstrates the utter fecklessness and failure of the current President and all his policies?
Plus his barely concealed racism, of course.
This Associated Press story on Saturday describes the desperation and devastation without once, not ever, mentioning the federal government, FEMA or President Barack Obama.
Thousands of people were staying in motels and shelters, asked to leave their homes by authorities who said emergency teams in some areas were too strapped to reach everyone in need of food, water and warmth. The outages disabled water systems, and authorities warned it could be days or weeks before power was restored in the most remote spots.
That uncertainty had many appealing for help and officials urging those in dark homes to leave, if they could many were stuck in place by blocked roads and other obstacles.
The storm that began in the Midwest had been blamed or suspected in at least 42 deaths, including 11 in Kentucky, nine in Arkansas, six each in Texas and Missouri, three in Virginia, two each in Oklahoma, Indiana and West Virginia and one in Ohio. Most were blamed on hypothermia, traffic accidents and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Rick Moran at American Thinker, with unconcealed derision for the MSM, writes under the incendiary and satirical headline:
Obama hates white people and wants them to die
Smith is also quoted as saying that FEMA is a no show.
Whats that? Here we are 5 days after the storm ended and still no FEMA? I demand a Congressional investigation. And lets get all the anchors and media people down here pronto. Peoples lives are at stake. For all we know, there are babies being eaten and people jumping off their roofs committing suicide because FEMA is nowhere to be found.
And where is our president? Shouldnt he be visiting these ravaged areas? It must be that he HATES WHITE PEOPLE AND WANTS THEM TO DIE. That is the only possible explanation for this incredible failure of our national government to relieve the suffering of these people.
Meanwhile, back at the White House during the same week Kentuckyians are freezing to death:
WASHINGTON The capital flew into a bit of a tizzy when, on his first full day in the White House, President Obama was photographed in the Oval Office without his suit jacket. There was, however, a logical explanation: Mr. Obama, who hates the cold, had cranked up the thermostat.
Hes from Hawaii, O.K.? said Mr. Obamas senior adviser, David Axelrod, who occupies the small but strategically located office next door to his boss. He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there.
Passed to me in an email:
How can 2 million blacks get into Washington DC in sub zero temps in 1 day, when 200,000 couldn’t get out of New Orleans when it was 85 degrees and they had four days notice?
Obama joked while Kentuckians croaked...
Confusion is how 2 million people can enter and exit the Washington Mall in 24 hours in sub zero temps, but 200,000 cannot exit New Orleans with four days notice and 85+ degree temps.
Interesting you say that.
Having made my way through several permutations in the theater/entertainment industry, actors have a way of criticizing a poor ability. Phoning in, as in he/she phoned in their performance.
Part of the Obama war on the White middle-class.
“Obama dozed while people froze”.
Correction: Obama dozed white people froze.
I wonder how many voted for him??
Prosecute him for war crimes now!
...now consider his classic "it's above my pay grade" line and what we all knew everybody knows....just make sure your portfolio goes about 75% bonds the rest in equities...this is too scary
We have family in Jonesboro (TWC has now deserted them) and they still don’t have power from last week.
School is still going and he has to go to work.. ...They did get a generator. But...well....
Where is Sean Penn?
I would have expected him to shovel snow with his red beer cup!
Here in Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas, the power companies were telling people that they could be without power from 3 to 4 weeks.
I’ve been wondering too......has FEMA been working to help Kentucky??
Kentucky voted for Mccain...this is how two-bit community organizers from the Chicago political machine pay back their enemies.........
They have, but the point is the comparison of the reaction by the media.
mail to you
Yes, haven’t heard any word from the media.......but, not surprising.
usually announced as “in coming”..*LOL*
