p>Two young children are to be adopted by a gay couple, despite the protests of their grandparents.
The devastated grandparents were told they would never see the youngsters again unless they dropped their opposition.
The couple, who cannot be named, wanted to give the five-year-old boy and his four-year-old sister a loving home themselves. But they were ruled to be too old - at 46 and 59.
For two years they fought for their rights to care for the children, whose 26-year- old mother is a recovering heroin addict.
They agreed to an adoption only after they faced being financially crippled by legal bills.
The final blow came when they were told the children were going to a gay household, even though several heterosexual couples wanted them.
When the grandfather protested, he was told: 'You can either accept it, and there's a chance you'll see the children twice a year, or you can take that stance and never see them again.'
The man said last night: 'It breaks my heart to think that our grandchildren are being forced to grow up in an environment without a mother figure. We are not prejudiced, but I defy anyone to explain to us how this can be in their best interests.'
Social workers themselves have admitted that the little girl is 'more wary' of men than women.
The case, in Edinburgh, raises worrying issues about state interference in family life.
It will also fuel concern over the practice of gay adoption, which has been promoted by Left-wing ministers and council bosses.
Some local authorities forbid adoption by smokers and obese people but actively support gay fostering and adoption - even though research shows overwhelmingly that children are best brought up by a mother and father.

WorldNetDaily.com ran a blockbuster expose last summer that loosely probed the probability of gay couples being supplied with children from heterosexual parents through the Social Services system (posted July 1, 2004). "The vast majority will come, because they already do come, from pre-existing heterosexual families," wrote Stephen Baskerville. "In Massachusetts," he continued, "Forty percent (40%), of the children adopted have gone to gay and lesbian families," according to Democratic state Senator Therese Murphy."

The Brits willingly disarmed themselves. Muslims, “East ASians” as the Brits call them, did not.
WHat a surprise.
Let England rot in its own self created pool of Socialist Cess. Having voted for generations to erect their present government, they will some time or other learn that actions have consequences.
Thank you for the update. Do you happen to have a source or link to that information? This story has me totally infuriated.
Can we donate money to them so they can fight?
I just went there and it said that there were no comments.
Another article about this evil madness.
Debate board is broken, and there are no comments below the story (I just checked).

A wealthy tycoon has pledged to help a couple who were told by a council to open their minds on gay adoption or never see their grandchildren again.
A top law firm has been hired in a bid to challenge the actions of Edinburgh City Council in the courts.
The council rejected the grandparents as adopters, in part because they were supposedly too old, and placed the children with two gay men.
They had spent two years trying to fight the Councils decision themselves, but gave in reluctantly when money ran out.
The grandparents would still like to adopt the children, but at the very least want them to have a mother figure in their lives particularly because one of the children is nervous around men.
On hearing of the backers offer, the grandmother said: I cant believe anyone would do that for us. We are so grateful.
The couples four and five-year-old grandchildren were removed from their daughters care because of her heroin addiction. The children were looked after for a time by their grandparents.
But the grandparents were told they couldnt adopt the children because of their ages the grandmother is 46 and her husband is 59 and because they suffer from diabetes and angina respectively.
Other heterosexual couples in the area were also rejected before social workers finally settled on a same-sex couple.
When the grandparents objected, protesting that the children should have both a mother and a father, they were told to drop their opposition or lose access to the children altogether.
The grandmother said: If we had known how it would turn out, that social workers would choose a home without a mother for them and wed have to like it or not see them again, wed never have given up the fight.
The thing is they were so happy here. They knew they were loved and they were safe.
The grandfather said: We never wanted to let [the children] go and, if we had known it would come to this, we would have fought it to our last breath.
We can now see it was the wrong thing to do. We were bullied and manipulated.
Now, because of the generosity of a stranger, we might have a chance to put things right not only for our family but for others who are put in this position.
Last week it was reported that a social worker had phoned the childrens mother to say that the furore surrounding the case meant the grandparents would not be recommended for twice-yearly visits once the children were adopted.
The Council is resisting separate calls for an inquiry. Councillor Marilyne MacLaren said: These are difficult decisions but we are confident we made the right decision and have no reason to doubt the staff involved acted with anything other than professionalism and sensitivity.
But a spokesman for the Catholic Church indicated that a legal challenge would go ahead: As well as the moral issue there is also a legal question, which needs to be explored. Lawyers will be taking this forward with the family.
Allowing two men to adopt children against the wishes of their grandparents who want to care for them is positively wicked. It is not surprising this case has caused outrage.
Hmm, I didn’t mean to reply to you, but now I don’t know who I meant to reply to! ack!
There is always a large police presence at places like CPS, Child Support Enforcement Agencies, Family Courts, etc.
The Democrats have turned America into a Police State to protect and enforce their Welfare State. I'm sure it is the same in the UK.
Thank you for posting the additional information. I will add the family to my daily prayers. This is absolutely vile and wicked.
At 46, the grandmother is still young enough to be their natural mother. If they were in their 80s, it might be a different story.
What those social workers did was pure evil.

Welcome the kids to a lifetime of sexual harrassment and perverted abuse.
I spent alot of time with my grandparents and little can I remember that wasn’t pleasant. My Grandmother did spank me once for dunking a cat in a bucket of water — she said it was like water-boarding and was reserved for the head choppers only.
“But they were ruled to be too old - at 46 and 59. “
WTF!?!?!?!?
I am in my 40s and have a 1 year old son. That’s bogus BS. It is far better for grandparents to raise kids than an adoptive parent with no relation. This is beyond sad, its an outrage.
Exactly! Many women I know gave birth and/or adopted babies in their mid-40’s. Since when are the mid-40’s old?
Sounds like good news! There's still hope for these children.
I posted text and linsk to the story. The tycoon, other businessmen and attorneys in Scotland contacted the Catholic Church to help the grandparents. Apparently a top law firm there is filing an action against the council.
