Springsteen's Homage to Pete Seeger
By Tom Moon
World Cafe, April 25, 2006 - On the new collection We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions, Bruce Springsteen honors the folk music tradition that has inspired many of his own compositions over the years. All the tracks on the new album are standards closely associated with folk icon Pete Seeger.
Springsteen assembled large ensemble of acoustic musicians to flavor the proceedings with everything from accordion to tuba. Rock critic Tom Moon talks with host David Dye about why he reacted so strongly and positively towards this latest offering by The Boss.

NYT Writer Corrects Record: Pete Seeger 'Only' 40 Years Late in Denouncing Stalin
By P.J. Gladnick
2007-09-02
The New York Times has now corrected [1] a "smear" about Pete Seeger being 50 years too late in denouncing Stalin. Thanks to the intrepid research of Times reporter Daniel J. Wakin, the record has now been set straight. Pete Seeger was only about 40 years too late in criticizing Stalin.

"Seeger was antiwar during the period of the Nazi-Soviet Pact; pro-war after the Soviet Union was the ally of the United States; and anti-war during the years of the Cold War and Vietnam. To Nichols -a rather dense left-winger -it is good form to acknowledge that perhaps 'Stalin was a bad guy,' and then simply get over it, and move on to campaign for very American socialist causes." --Ronald Radosh (former communist)

Earth Day, April 22, 1970:
"The nationwide event included opposition to the Vietnam War on the agenda, but this was thought to detract for the environmental message.
Pete Seeger was a keynote speaker and performer at the event held in Washington DC."

Earth Day founded on Lenin's 100th birthday? --yeah, it's a "coincidence". LOL!
Crap.
He’s just a rock musician; if you don’t like what he says, turn the volume down.
As long as he’s singing, he’s almost as good as Bob Seger...
Good grief.
When Springsteen runs for office is when I’ll give a feces about his politics.
As far as Seeger goes, his singing has brought joy to many misunderstood people, including Joe Stalin and many American Communists. What are the lives of the 50-60 million non-and less-than-enthusiastic communists slaughtered by the Soviets? I am sure you can see that it is but a small price to pay for bringing the communist utopian message to the unwashed.
Just glad he ain’t my boss.
I partially grew up listening to the guy, I new he was a lefty because he hated Reagan back then, but he kept a lid on it for the most part, but when he went full on moonbat I microwaved all my CDs from him and would never put a nickel in his pocket again.
He disgusts me. There is only so much you can handle sometimes.
I’m sure he has no problem with his music becoming “the people’s” music, right?
We can copy it without paying him now, right?
If culture was so unimportant, the communists wouldn’t have made such a point of capturing it.
People don’t seem to get it or care. That’s why we are where we are.
Crap. I'm just a FR poster; if you don't like this thread I posted, click on a different one.
There are a LOT of dopes, even on the right, who play Springsteen's "Born in the USA" on the 4th of July and other patriotic occasions. They actually think it's a pro-American song.
LOL! I don't think so (assuming we would want to copy any of em).
I generally don’t pay much attention to celebs who are incapable of speaking in complete sentances.
Certainly back in the day there where. I remember the Reagan campaign tried to use it for an ad in 1984.
“The Boss” loudly campaigned for “change” for John Kerry in 2004, then recently went whole hog for Obama, claiming that Bush “destroyed lives” and lied to start a war, etc. It was so gratifying to have such a Great American for the Superbowl halftime celebration tonight. /not
no kiddin’
why not “Just Shut Up and Sing” for Ted Nugent, Charlie Daniels?
Pretty much it’s “Shut Up and Sing” ...unless I like your message.
Please just go away.
“I generally dont pay much attention to celebs who are incapable of speaking in complete sentances.”
I don’t know if Bruce speaks in complete “sentences”.
Betcha he spell it though.
For every Ted Nugent or Charlie Daniels, there are at least 50 left-wing performers like Springsteen. That’s 50 times the influence on American culture.
If Bruce loves communism so much, he needs to prove it by distributing his assets back to the people. My gut tells me he’s worth close to a billion by now.
So, let all the conservative singers speak but only 2% of the liberal ones.
That should even it out, yes?
