Get ready for a few years of breast-pounding about greedy pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies and doctors. The campaign will culminate (we can expect) in some half-assed health care scheme cobbled together by bureaucrats that will hide its costs in taxes, discourage innovation and ultimately run up against the same laws of economics that trip up state-run medicine elsewhere.
The incoming Barack Obama administration is in full yes-we-can mode on health care. Pity-hire ... ummm ... honorable former Senator Thomas A. Daschle wanders the country, asking anybody who will hold still for a moment what the government should do to make people happy with their doctors, prescriptions and aging bodies. Not surprisingly, lots of folks seem to be reaching for the stars, answering that they want expensive stuff for free, and lots of it.
Sob stories always lead, of course. TheWashington Post reported the sad case of Dolly Sweet, who says she's not taking her cancer medicine because it costs $35,000 a year.
You know, I'm sorry to hear that Ms. Sweet was priced out of that expensive drug, but I'm at a loss for a viable alternative. Medicines cost money in terms of research, development and the approval process. Seven years ago, the Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development pegged the cost of developing a new prescription drug at $802 million . Two years ago, the same group put the cost of a new bio-tech product at $1.2 billion. If it's a new painkiller that's going to reach a vast number of users, the cost can be spread out over millions of people. But a new cancer drug -- particularly if it's targeted at specific types of cancer -- is going to cost fewer users a lot of money.
Somebody has to pay those costs,

If only EVERYONE would pay their taxes, TOMMY, maybe we could afford the really important things.
“daschle leads obama charge”
VIVA LA REVOLUCION!!!
/s/
IMHO
I hate these people.
“Got it?
It was a good time to do what we wanted, get what we want, take as much as we can (irrespective of the ethics or even the law involved), ignore the consequences and then move along, saddling someone else with the bill.
This is not just a financial markets issue. It is an everything and everywhere issue.
The problem is that there is no “someone else” and the bill is on the table. We will pay that check, and it will be paid through radical contraction in our standard of living and, if we do not stop rewarding these sorts of actions and instead try to bail them out we will suffer an all-on economic and social collapse.”

We were warned. We knew what was coming. I dont know that Mccain would have been that much better he was a pretty sorry candidate too, but this guy is giving us tax cheats. Hillary Clinton, asking the military to cut 10% from their budget while asking for a 800 billion dollar porkfest. If we can make it 4 years we may have a chance.
Hopefully some of this stuff can be corrected.
Dr. Daschle says “Take two aspirin, and stand in line for two months.”
Maybe, but it will take a long, long time, and some of it may never be repealed. We're still paying today for the legacy of The New Deal. Johnson and the 'Rats ran wild after '64 with the 89th Congress and we're still suffering from that (The Great Society). Reagan and Bush I (to some extent) had 12 years to try to correct the Carter miscues over four years and couldn't do it all. Once things are screwed up, it's tough to fix.
Under ObamaCare, substandard "free" medical treatment will actually be more expensive to the American people than current private-pay treatment when taxes and fees are counted into the total cost.
Government operation of any previously private enterprise invariably costs the public more in hidden costs than it did before government butted in, and health care will not be an exception. And that's not to mention the very real risk of dying while waiting for your turn to be treated under ObamaCare.
And he is also the TOP TAX CHEAT!
Dashole, Obama, Hillary! health kare, also known as DOH!
In countries that have government-run medical systems, the only thing they do half-way well (but still not good enough) is provide health-CARE. They'll send an army of government-employed ‘medical workers’ to wipe your nose, change your adult diapers, microwave a TV dinner for you.
But these same systems are horrible on CURE.
You see, the “care” workers become government employees. The finances stay within the economy and is therefore, in the eyes of socialists, an economic ‘asset.’
When someone needs “cure,” that requires far fewer but highly specialized ‘employees’ and far more finances. Thus, ‘cure’ becomes an economic ‘liability.’ They'd prefer that the truly ill ‘not exist’ within their system, which means, they have a vested interest in letting the ill die.
So, when Obammie the Commie starts pushing his government-run, commie-based medical system, keep in mind that all he wants to offer is a dust-and-vacuum service performed by government employees.
Me too.
Well, we know it won’t come out of Daschle’s taxes cause HE DOESN’T PAY TAXES!!!
The fact that the IRS doesn’t come after these people....makes me think that a guy who makes over $500k a year...has a free ticket here.
I worked with a guy who refused to pay his state income tax, and quietly did this for twelve years. He was likely making around $70k a year profit off his flea-market sales operation...going from market to market each day. One day, a relative of his finally talked him into doing the right thing, and he simply started that day reporting his income to the state....paying on state taxes from that day forward (not admitting the previous twelve years). They never caught on.
My guess is that Daschle will get a pass on this issue, but the Republicans will remember this episode.
I know three doctors who voted for Obama.
I asked each of them point blank what it’s like to vote themselves less money.
They even had the nerve to look at me quizingly and ‘didn’t believe’ Obama would start Universal Health Care.
This let me know that umpteen years of college and medical school doesn’t mean common sense is part of the package.
Each had a wife who was part of the country club cool clique and LOVED Obama.
The word I hear around the lounge is that:
If Universal Health Care Passes
~30% of those I listen to, will simply quit
It is not worth it to to continue
with the trauma of the life in medicine,
and to be raped by the system at the same time
Mexico, I guess. I hear they've progessed from bleeding with leeches.
