Rock star Bruce Springsteen has said it was a "mistake" to exclusively release an album with US retail giant Wal-Mart.
The musician told the New York Times: "Our batting average is usually very good, but we missed that one."
Some fans complained about the deal, saying claims made against Wal-Mart's labour practices conflicted with Springsteen's principles on the issue.
He is due to perform during the interval at Sunday's Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida.
'Done different'
"We were in the middle of doing a lot of things, it kind of came down and, really, we didn't vet it the way we usually do," said the musician.
"It was something that if we'd thought about it a little longer, we'd have done something different.
"Fans will call you on that stuff, as it should be," added Springsteen.

Another sellout entertainer.
In an earlier interview with Billboard magazine, Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau said the release was not advertising the store, while his existing albums are already stocked there.

He’s a liar. Everyone knows the left hates Walmart. He wants the money and to be able to denounce the deal at the same time.
Where else was he going to sell them?
WalMart must have made he a deal him couldn’t refuse or else he wouldn’t have done it. Money talks, ‘Boss’. You just proved it. Just because he has his ‘fans’ fooled doesn’t mean he has everyone fooled.
Exactly.
Yo Bruce ...SHUT UP ... I bet the Check cashes JUST FINE!! If it’s so hard on your Conscience, send me the check.. Ican cash it and Sleep JUST FINE!!
Walmart should have made BRUCE do the Walmart TOUR. Stage is a Flatbed Tractor Trailer, and perform live the songs on the EXCLUSIVE Album. Hell, I even got to meet the MONKEES, and a couple of the “Monkees of the 90’s” 2 or 3 BOY BANDS (O-Town,etc)
His fans would have stormed him and Put the BOSS into an Early Retirement.
Well Brucey Woocey, greed can make us do some crazy things. Go count your money and deal with it chump!
Springsteen’s a liar.
He is a rocker that has faded. No one really cares for his style of 1980s music today. No one under the age of 25 is going to buy his stuff. So he is absolutely dependent on the over 40 crowd to remember him and his political antics (or to forget his political antics). Wal-Mart offered him the only golden-ticket in town. They believe they can sell a significant number and he basically had no other takers. Without Wal-Mart’s help, this CD was destined to be forgotten within four weeks.
The sad part of this story is that washed-up rockers have no real opportunity to recapture anything from their past. There are a few exceptions (KISS, for example). But if Springsteen was going to arrange a concert tour and travel through the south, midwest and west coast with 30 appearances, then I’d imagine that half of the appearances would be canceled because of lack of interest.
Only a suggestion here Bruce...but you might have opportunity up in Branson, Missouri. Get up a dinner stage show and sell $22 dinner coupons with a five song show...and you might fill up the audience. Just remember not to state your politics.
Bruce, I love your music.
But on this issue, do not say your are sorry, you went in eyes wide open.
You could make amends by sending 100% of receipts to charity (and not ACORN)
Doubt that I could honestly tell anyone that I know of a song this guy has recorded.
Paging Mike Appel.
Please pick up the “stupid move” phone.
The day the music died.
Went from “Born in th USA” when Springsteen was the “BOSS”
To born in Mexico
and
Made in China.
What has happened to America? Just like Springsteen
WE SOLD OUT!
The pastor at church today encouraged everyone to watch the Springsteen show at superbowl. On the way out, I asked him if he thought the Boss would sing any of his songs about adultery.
He did not see my point, so I told him that Bruce is a wretch.
(I may be making too much of this, but I don’t think so.)
WalMart has a reputation for selling crap, so why not sell his album there as well?
What a Moron!
