Of course, the MSM will do its best to minimize or trivialize this issue (just like they did with Geithner)...

while they were OUTRAGED at what was spent on Sarah Palin's clothes and her per diem records.

If it wasn't for double standards, liberals would have none.

It’s just amazing how getting appointed to high office helps IMPROVE THE MEMORY of democrats,,,,,when it comes to taxes!!!

The thing that puzzles me is this -- why aren't we using this as an occasion to be UNIFIED and LOBBY for A SIMPLE, FLAT TAX ? We are too in love with the 60,000 page tax code with its incomprehensible deductions for lifestyles that politicians favor that we forget that it is also the basis for corruption and the government prying into our individual lives.

Are we a free people or what ?

How many Americans make so much money that they could forget about $83,000 of it in a year?

Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Ted Kennedy, Al Gore, John Kerry...

The Finance Committee staff still is reviewing whether travel and entertainment services provided Tom and Linda Daschle by EduCap, Inc., Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation, Academy Achievement, and Loan to Learn should be reported as income. Earlier this month, the Wall Street Journal reported that Daschle made use of the jet belonging to EduCap, a non-profit student loan organization. http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/01/more-daschle-ta.html

Senate Finance Committee Report also notes that during "the vetting process"..this has enhanced their memory ..all this should have been vetted first, then embarrassment with the cart before the horse would not be ongoing White House drama for the Obama team*sters. After all, Obama is accustomed to Chicago style politics. Oblivious, naive and living in a bubble out of touch with reality...a real life Cinderfella story. Not a good endorsement by these first 10 days in his qualifications of being fit to be a Commander in Chief.

Actually, it looks like a great way to reduce the budget deficit is to keep on appointing democrats to high office!!!

...and dont forget the Charlie Rangel Rule--where you pay no penalties if "vetted out"...sounds better than "cheated" as long as you can, without getting caught.

Very true! ;)

Audit everyone in political office..we could stimulate the economy big time with a "payback" stimulus from the "cheaters"..and the American people might have faith again in the equality of the "system".

The flat tax, a laudable goal, is impossible when the livelihood of 535 congress critters depends on rewarding donors and punishing opponents.

Obama knew of this as well as the tax issue Geithner faced.

Remember Obama's unprecedented lengths to screen with his application questioner:

NY TIMES-

For a Washington Job, Be Prepared to Tell All A seven-page questionnaire being sent by the office of President-elect Barack Obama to those seeking cabinet and other high-ranking posts may be the most extensive — some say invasive — application ever.

The questionnaire includes 63 requests for personal and professional records, some covering applicants’ spouses and grown children as well, that are forcing job-seekers to rummage from basements to attics, in shoe boxes, diaries and computer archives to document both their achievements and missteps.

Only the smallest details are excluded; traffic tickets carrying fines of less than $50 need not be reported, the application says. Applicants are asked whether they or anyone in their family owns a gun. They must include any e-mail that might embarrass the president-elect, along with any blog posts and links to their Facebook pages.

The application also asks applicants to “please list all aliases or ‘handles’ you have used to communicate on the Internet.”

It should be mandatory for all officials of government to be audited EVERY single year. Make the audits available to the public so we can see just how these scumbags avoid paying "their fair share".

BASTARDS!

Exactly!! We need to strike while the iron is hot. No better time than now.

We should be organizing a massive tax revolt for April 15th. Refuse to file and refuse to send them any more of our money. We take away from them what is ours to begin with! If we could get just 1 million people to join we would have them by the balls. The house of cards would eventually fall.

Are we a free people or what ?

No, until we get rid of the income tax and the IRS we will continue to be slaves.
