The Truth Behind the Proposed DTV Conversion Delay
The Next Right ^ | 1-29-09 | chemjeff

"Clearwire has a cooperative agreement with Sprint to build a 4G wireless internet network. When it comes online, it would be the fastest wireless internet network in the country. Naturally other wireless companies are working on their own 4G networks too. Clearwire's major competitor in this capacity is Verizon....."

Interesting take on the DTV conversion delay. The Obama's advisor for telecom policy is a VP at Clearwire. The delay helps Clearwire in their release of a new 4G network and hurts Verizon because Verizon needs to use the bandwidth cleared up after the conversion for their 4G network.

This is an other example of the reason for the delay:

Funny but could be accurate for some.

You could say "for most" and it would be accurate. You wouldn't believe the questions I get asked concerning this conversion...After all, if you are an Defense Contractor Avionics/Electronics guy you are supposed to know everything...Now if I could get the company would pay me like I know everything I wouldn't complain.

I don’t think there’s any doubt that Obama is shilling for his contributors. Why else would he be putting this so high on his agenda, as one of the very first things to be pushed through congress?

If so then the delay will do little if any to help those people. They will be just as much in the dark in June as they are in Feb.

TV stations are concerned about the delay and the extra expense of transmitting the two formats. They are experiencing a decline in revenues and need to cut costs where they can. Heard that some stations are going to convert on the 17th anyway.

That really is the case for my 95 year old mother who lives 2500 miles away from me. I tried to get her to agree to hook up to Cable TV (I would pay for it), but she is determined to do without TV altogether. :(

What is really of note here is that the DTV conversion will open up the white spaces that will make the traditional, broadcast TV obsolete entirely.

Who would have thought? Seems like all decisions by government have political payoffs.
