which groups of the electorate the party should target

Since the pubs seem hell bent on immitating the rats, how about they target the dead, family pets and of course illegal alien invaders.

46 percent share of the vote is not as dismal as some losing candidates of the past, it is still far short of a majority

Nor is it as dismal as some WINNING candidates, ala 1992!

Stupid advice. I believe I disagree with every bit of it.

Here’s an idea! Stop trying to find “demographics” and cater to them and start acting like the Republican party.

Barone is basing his assessments on the results of a bad economy, which delivered a preponderance of the unlettered “moderates,” and a black candidate who took more than half of the small percentage of minorities who vote Republican.

...”upscale?” Is Signor Barone a salesman for a casino or a bordello?

36% of voters are Democrats according to the most recent poll.

This matches perfectly with the 64 % to 65% of the voters who Rush insists state they’re always conservative or somewhat conservative voters!!

Conservatives were turned off by McCain in the last election - because he wasn’t conservative enough for the majority of voters.

We got a 46 percent share of the vote running a moldly RINO with no chance of winning. Imagine the blow-out we would have won by if we chose a real candidate.

I don’t see it as a choice between downscale and upscale. I see it as being easier to hold the Palin crowd and build a majority around that core, than to throw that away and try to outbid the Democrats.

They should go after voters who are pro liberty and pro-life. To do that they (the Republicans) have to be pro-liberty and pro-life as moral convictions.

One is that while John McCain's 46 percent share of the vote is not as dismal as some losing candidates of the past...

Anyone want to guess at his percentage if he had say, picked Huckabee for VP? Or Lieberman? Or Giuliani?

This article demonstrates perfectly what’s wrong with the Republicans.

Here’s what “upscalers” like David Frum and Michael Barone are saying to cultural conservatives. Hey, you ignorant, southern hicks! Downplay YOUR issues. Downplay traditional marriage and babies — the bedrock of civilization, the essence of Christianity, and the heartbeat of a dynamic, growing society.

Sophisticates like Frum and Barone are asking the Republican Party to stand idly by as a once great nation aborts and divorces itself into Eurosocialist oblivion. They want to sell the soul of the party for a few points in the opinion polls (or a few pieces of silver).

Never. Never. Never.

Sincerely,

DS (downscale conservative)

They can go upscale all they want. I’m going to keep slumming it and sit here bitterly clinging to my bible and gun.

Accepting these numbers for arguments sake then it make sense to me to go back to Reagan Philosophically and Reagan Democrats tactically.

Easiest way to win? Call your opponent out on their Communism.

And use the darn words, too.

Republicans are already fighting an image of only being interested in rich corporate types, so this would be extremely damaging for the GOP future.

If the parents of those “under 30” university students weren’t such idiots and would cut off support for their brain-washed “children,” these clones of their liberal professors would have to make their own way in this world and grow up. That might change their entire philosophy of economics and their voting patterns.

The conservative message needs to be carried to the entire electorate. Many people embrace REAL conservatism. I DO agree that effort must be made to carry that conservative message to minority groups so that they may understand WHY conservatism is in their best interest.

The mistake in the past has often been to “modify” the message to suit a particular group. That has been a horrible mistake.

Where the hell would the GOP be if they shunned the angry white male and female. Down with the Greens and Reform party?
