A bill proposing to grant in-state tuition to all Colorado high school students, including illegal-immigrants, was introduced Friday by Sen. Chris Romer.
"For us to be an economic success, we need to make sure all these kids can get into college," said Romer, D-Denver. "And right now a small number of students can't go to college because their immigration status."
"I firmly believe we shouldn't punish children for the decisions of adults," Romer said...
Romer's argument may be more likely to succeed in these trying economic times. In fact, he's already touting support from Republican businessmen around the state, including Dick Monfort, a Weld County cattleman, chairman of the University of Northern Colorado Board of Trustees and the owner of the Colorado Rockies.
"This policy, for all its compassion, amounts to Colorado thumbing its nose at federal immigration law," said Sen. Shawn Mitchell, R-Broomfield. "States can't extend in-state tuition to illegal immigrants unless they make that same offer to everyone from every state in the country. In other words, it does away with the concept of in-state tuition."

Grab your wallet.
Romer is pushing the DREAM Act.
Then don't punish US kids for your stupid decision. The idea of validating illegals, and punishing our in-state HS grads is remarkably stupid. It is one of those idiotic "feel good" ideas - help the children. Great, US CHILDREN FIRST!
Coloradans: GRAB YOUR ANKLES AND MAKE A WISH! Suckers....

Well now, if it is only a small number of students affected, they won't have much of an effect on the economic success (or lack thereof) of the state in general.
Yup.
Just wait til federal amnesty
BHO may do this nationally?
if these illegal aliens are going to get in-state tuition i betcha’ a dime to dollar they are also receiving some sort of welfare distribution like FOOD STAMPS or HEALTHCARE .
as I had previously stated in another post about drug testing and welfare receipients i stated I was partial to author’s viewpoint, just not the feds coming into your kitchen to tell you what to cook. Now I’m seeing the light.
Is COlorado a sanctuary state? I know Maryland is.Vermont is not .
Illegeal don’t deserve anything except to be shipped back from whence they came.
So, can he get in-state tuition on either coast? Oh wait, he's just an average white kid, with two parents (natural born US citizens) that work. The liberals aren't interested in helping him. Only other people's kids. On second thought, maybe that's not such a bad thing, those liberal idiots can just leave my kids alone.
Romer...Romer..the name soinds familiar.....
I’m sorry fellow Freepers but the illegal immigration issue is a lost cause. Too many special interests.
For me, it’s not immigration that bothers me, it’s the total lack of respect for the law. If, for instance, there had been a green card program in place whereby the thirty million illegals in this country had come here *legally*, then I wouldn’t be bothered by the whole issue, because frankly America benefits from their cheap labor. Ask any economist.
But since they *are* here illegally and are by definition criminals, and since they take advantage of government services without paying taxes, then it becomes a rule of law issue, NOT an immigration issue or a racial issue or what have you.
But, unfortunately, the rule of law doesn’t mean much in this country where special interests are concerned.
HELL NO.
So this guy is pro life?
This fool’s father was the governor, then the LA Education Chief, then...
The nut did not fall far from the tree.
Why not? AMERICAN smokers are going to start paying for “healthcare” for MEXICAN NATIONALS up to the age of 30.
You MUST be a Coloradan... ;-)
Then don’t punish US kids for your stupid decision. The idea of validating illegals, and punishing our in-state HS grads is remarkably stupid.
Out-of state HS grads (who are US citizens) are also punished. My son would like to go to Grad school in Colorado. He is hoping to be hired for an assistantship in order to get a waiver for out-of-state fees, which can run over double in-state.
I believe this type of bill has passed in CA and IL :(
just how are they going to be employed if they are illegal? fake documents, stolen id’s?
