UK: Rush Limbaugh profile
London Telegraph ^ | 1/31/2009 | Tom Leonard

Ronald Reagan described him as "the number one voice for Conservatism in our country" while, during the Clinton era, the National Review magazine grandly dubbed him the "leader of Conservative Principles".

Broadcasting from what he describes as a "heavily fortified bunker" in Palm Beach, Florida, Limbaugh has been America's most listened-to talk show host since the mid-1990s.

The show, which airs for three hours every weekday, has just reached its 20th year in syndication.

Heard on some 600 radio stations across America, it still attracts a weekly audience of more than 14 million people.

He earns a salary to match. Last year, Limbaugh, 58, signed a new contract with Clear Channel Communications that he said would earn him about $38 million a year, as well as a $100 million signing bonus.

Praised by Republicans for helping to offset what they see as liberal bias in the US media, Limbaugh is regarded as an enormously influential figure in presidential elections.

Democrats have accused him of dirty tactics. During the recent presidential nomination battle, he launched Operation Chaos, a radio campaign to encourage Republicans to vote for Hillary Clinton and so prolong the in-fighting among Democrats.

Limbaugh admits that his taste for political controversy is motivated primarily by business considerations.

He told the New York Times last year: "First and foremost, I'm a businessman. My first goal is to attract the largest possible audience so I can charge confiscatory ad rates.

"I happen to have great entertainment skills, but that enables me to sell airtime."

The Missouri-born presenter began his radio career as a teenager and went to become a music disc jockey.

After taking a break from radio to work for a Kansas City baseball team, he became a talk-show host in the 1980s.

As opposed to our beloved public servants, who never profit from anything they do. I mean, it’s not as if Al Gore has seen one cent from that global warming thing.

"Democrats have accused him of dirty tactics."

That's the pot calling the kettle black. Liberals are the masters of dirty tricks. We are seeing that.

The Brits are waking to conservatism after a long slumber. The gun issue is coming to a boil now. They feel like prisoners in their own homes and gun crime continues after more than a decade of gun bans.

Could the Fleet Street media be more lazy (or disingenuous)?

Instead of listing El Rushbo's "major controversies" they might have explained what these "major controversies" were about, showing that their American drive-by counterparts deliberately misled readers on each of those issues.

Comme ci, comme ça media.

We need to post some comments at the paper that wrote this.

BS article!

The last sentence has my blood pressure up!! God...I hate the MSM!

RUSH is a GIANT, not because he shapes our opinions...but because he gives voices to millions of us that think the same way!!

The left wants to silence him...because they want to silence us all. Can a leftist fascism be born in this country through 20 years of propaganda, manipulation of the populace and a Pravda like control of our media?

You bet your ass it can...it is happening now...and few people care or even understand the gravity of the moment.

God Save Our Republic!
