I hate to break it to the Liberals but now that Obama is President of the United States, Black politicians can no longer be called Uncle Tom’s....

Obama broke the glass ceiling. Michael Steele is an excellent Conservative choice to head the RNC and his tenure should scare the crap out of the racist elite Democrats that think they have a lock on 90 percent of the Black vote in this country....

Suggest everyone read this article for his history; a lot like Clarence Thomas in the adversity he overcame:

Johns Hopkins Magazine -- "Mother Knows Best"

They do have a lock on the black vote.

However, yes, black Republicans can annoy and even cause fear among them (Clarence Thomas).

Steele was up for and promoted for this position in ‘06 but Bush passed him for Martinez, So no matter what people would like to say, he’s been on the short list for quite some time with race not being the issue. Maybe it was a deciding factor in this vote, but the fact he came in second on the balloting when everyone thought his chances were slim (or at least redstate tried to write off the possibility) does prove he’d been in everyone’s minds for a long time.

It makes sense. Duncan was the reigning head and the GOP always seems to default toward current leadership. And Steele had essentially been running since ‘06 for the position. Blackwell decided to enter way too late to upset Steele’s advantage. The only other serious challenge was Dawson who got an anti-Duncan vote, is conservative, but in the end unfairly perhaps the club thing would have derailed it.

For now I’m just pleased at least one of the top 3 GOP positions was overturned finally. Still no fan of Boehner but at least he got all Reps to stand toegther on the last bill. Mcconnell remains a complete joke.

Why the hell are we in knots over this?

"We"? The FR response to having Steele as RNC Chair has been overwhelmingly positive. Some FReepers doubt Steele's ability to sway black voters, but they neglect to say who would do better. That is just a small part of his job anyway.

He thinks semi-auto guns should be banned, because the 2nd Amendment is for skeet shooting, so he’ll let us keep our shotguns, please he weasled around on Roe v Wade then finally admitted he doesn’t want it overturned.

Another moderate Pubbie who doesn’t support Life or the 2nd Amendment.

I won’t support them with time or funds when they vote in people like this.

I wish Blackwell had won, he’s great on the 2nd Amendment.

Ed

I’m talking about the ‘We’publicans.

Whenever a person other than a white male rises through the ranks of the Republican party, it’s the ‘exception’, or in the case of Steele, a ‘token’. It’s bull$hit and there’s the tendency for elements of the party to get defensive about it. What’s ‘natural’ for the Democrats is ‘tokenism’ for the Republicans; the premise is erroneous.

Any successful black man that isn’t a left winger is called an “Uncle Tom”. Any black kid that wants to be successful is accused of “acting white”. The “black street” is full of shit.

the premise is erroneous.

Yes. Michael Steele was on a very short list of very qualified candidates for the chairmanship. Tokens are not hired on the basis of merit.

Hope he turns out well for the party.

The upshot is that its almost impossible to suck worse than Duncan.

He ought to be tarred and feathered for his miserable performance.

OK enough of the “I love Steele” passions.

Is he convincing enough to fork over your hard earned dough to support the GOP when he comes calling for your $$$ ?
