He promised to expand the base of Republican party by changing the party's strategy to appeal to voters in the northeast and other regions where the GOP has failed to gain traction in recent years.
"It's time for something completely different and we're going to bring it to them," Steele said in remarks reminiscent of former Democratic National Committee head Howard Dean's 50-state strategy.
"We're going to bring this party to every corner, every boardroom, every neighborhood, every community."

More stupid (and ignorant) media tripe.
Isn’t that what Republicans do best?
Good, because acting like the Democrats while refusing to communicate with the American people has not exactly been a winner.
Stop with the hand-wriniging already, why don't we give the man a chance.
NO he is NOT a version of HOWARD DEAN! OMG here we go again...I guess the Dems will keep the House and Senate (Congress) in 2010 with these attitudes.
I’m not completely familiar with Steele’s plans, but copying some of the Democrats’ strategies isn’t exactly a BAD idea. Granted, we have to come up with a few of our own, but there are things that the GOP can definitely learn by examining the WHYs of how Dems have been successful in the last few years...
No, Steel is more the GOP version of Colin Powell.
Which used to be OK but not what we need for the next election.
It can be done but I will be surprised if M Steele or anyone else has the skills to do it properly. Let’s remember he lost in his last election in the NE.
It is possible that blacks will listen to him a bit but not likely until Obama is out of office. The trick is to remain conservative, appeal to minorities and convert some white moderates all in one swoop. Not easy.
Boy, that didn’t take long. He was just elected an hour ago and they’re already slammin’ him. Geesh!
Michael Steele is not a nut case like Howard Dean.
Another note:
Allowing the media to define the GOP as you have just done in this post by supporting their spin on Steele is one of the MAIN reasons the GOP has failed...
I would suggest NOT believing the liberal media hype over this and make your OWN decisions based upon Steele’s ACTIONS, and not how his words are interpreted by “reporters” and pundits.
agreed
I agree with your comparison to Powell. Although he deserves credit for being a persuasive and articulate speaker (unlike McCain and certainly unlike Bush), Steele is a “big tent” Republican.
Steele has passion that Powell lacks. He’s an excellent choice.
Noob, why do you only post articles and never enter into the discussion?
This is one thing I don’t think Conservatives realize. The Dems and their supporters in the media already knew exactly how they would attack ANYONE elected today by the GOP. Incidently, this is why the Palin pick freaked them out so badly during the election. She wasn’t on their radar, and they DIDN’T have a game plan already in place to combat her. It’s also why they resorted to character assassination in the most basic sense.
Sounds good to me. I think I like him already.
I seriously doubt Mr. Steele is that sort of guy.
Just forget the voter and offer the people a conservative program. The rest will take care of itself.
