Mexico is one of two countries that "bear consideration for a rapid and sudden collapse," according to a report by the U.S. Joint Forces Command on worldwide security threats. The command's report, which contains projections of global threats and potential next wars, puts Pakistan on the same level as Mexico. "The Mexican government, its politicians, police and judicial infrastructure are all under sustained assault by criminal gangs and drug cartels. Any descent of Mexico into chaos would demand an American response based on the serious implications for homeland security alone." In recent weeks, the Department of Homeland Security and former U.S. drug czar Barry McCaffrey issued similar alerts about Mexico.

They’re just doing the banana republicking and civil strifing that Americans won’t.
This has been posted many times. OLD NEWS!
Since they see nothing wrong with Mexicans crossing into the US, I see nothing wrong with the Big Red One crossing into Mexico.
I’ve often thought that this was the reason Dubya walked the line he did on the issue of illegal immigration. The money sent back to Mexico by workers here in the States accounted for the largest chunk of the Mexican economy. If we had kicked all illegals out of the country and fenced the border, the Mexican economy would collapse with the result being pretty close to the article above.
Right about now I will take comfort in Zombo.com won't you all join me? I plan on staying at Zombo.com, where the unattainable is unknown for the next 4-8 years. Someone come get me after Obama's time is up. Thank you.
All the more reason to beef up border security (preferably military)
Uh...I got news for the U.S. Military...the sudden collapse of USA is possible.
I hope all you drug warriors think that the collapse of Mexico is a collateral damage worth paying for, in your righteous attempt to prohibit drugs.
I think you spend way too much time worrying about drugs.
That open border was good for Mexico's welfare for decades but now it has come back to bite them.
Winefred Scott and the siege of meheeko city, all over again.
And we’d notice the difference how?
it would be a disaster for the border u.s. states because there would be a mass invasion of mexicans seeking safety.
indeed, many middle class mexicans maintain american homes for fear of chaos in mexico.
indeed, that’s how most mexican-americans arrived in the first place—
during the mexican revolution they crossed into the u.s. for safety.
On the contrary, the people who bust down people’s doors at 3AM spend too much time worrying about drugs - which isn’t me. Are you more like them than you are like me?
And in any case, is the cost of Mexico collapsing worth continuing the fight? Maybe you should stop worrying about drugs and start worrying about Mexico. (Then again, maybe not - but it isn’t me who’s saying that the collapse of Mexico would be a “huge cost” to America’s national security.)
That’s possible but I think he was also joining the political fight to see who could out-pander whom for the Hispanic vote. Also, leaving the Mexican border unsecured was an open invitation for terrorists to come here. He seemed more intent on guarding Iraq’s borders than our own.
Let’s turn Mexico into a state and start taxing their behinds.
Thanks for the zombo correction. Right, in the age of Obama where we have trillion dollar pork packages pretending to be stimuli for the economy, the only ones not bailed out are the United States, now broke, and the next generation, already in hock.
