I’ve often thought that this was the reason Dubya walked the line he did on the issue of illegal immigration. The money sent back to Mexico by workers here in the States accounted for the largest chunk of the Mexican economy. If we had kicked all illegals out of the country and fenced the border, the Mexican economy would collapse with the result being pretty close to the article above.
That’s possible but I think he was also joining the political fight to see who could out-pander whom for the Hispanic vote. Also, leaving the Mexican border unsecured was an open invitation for terrorists to come here. He seemed more intent on guarding Iraq’s borders than our own.
