Hitler 'Swastickers' Go On Sale

A chilling "Panini-style" sticker album showing 138 pictures of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler is going under the hammer.

Hitler smiling and joking with children and skiing are among the photographs that were designed to be used like modern football sticker albums.

The pictures of the Fuhrer were collected by his supporters and Nazi Youth who may have even carried out "swapsies" with them in the playground.

Inside the album is an introduction by Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels as well as captions to the pictures which the collector would glue the photographs to.

"There are some stirring images and they also show the other more human side of Hitler that we often don't see," said Richard Westwood-Brookes, from Mullock's auctioneers.

"This was released in 1936, the year Berlin held the Olympic Games and the whole world was looking on.

Hitler during the war years

"Goebbels was an evil genius and these albums meant people repeatedly opened them up to see inspiring photographs of their Fuhrer."

The images from 1930s Germany portray the evil dictator in both a powerful and caring light.

Hitler is also seen in uniform making aggressive-looking speeches portraying him as the all-powerful Fuhrer that his enemies learned to fear.

The thick album has a cover inscribed with just the words "Adolph Hitler" in gothic type-face, and was one of many that were released during the 1930s.

It has an estimated value of several hundred pounds.

The collection was brought home by a British soldier and has remained in his family ever since.

I LOVE it! Not only do I own the exact same book, but I also have another one called “Deutschland Erwache”! These are the so-called cigarette books - the books themselves were given away free (without pictures) by the Cigaretten/Bilderdienst of Hamburg. People could then purchase packets of cigarettes with the photos and paste them into the books.

If I saw one, I would love to take a look at it. Not because I think Hitler was great, but being a history buff of all history, the photos provide a window into that era, not just visually, but a emotional window as well...where the visual came from.

The link below has pictures of the USS Tabberer, just an amazing ship and story, but the photographs were like almost none of that era I have ever see. Just astounding. Not the quality, but the men and the world they lived in.

This was my favorite picture in this group, but it is typical:

What I find striking about this is how much information you get about the sailor the ship and the times from this one picture. This guy who was probably a lookout is serious about his work, and his Captain is more interested in an excellent ship and crew than he is about a mop of curly hair. The tenseness in the guy's face betray the strain and serious work of looking for small dots in the sky that suddenly come streaking straight at YOU with an intent to kill you. Doesn't look like an ounce of fat on the guy, tattoo tells a story and so on.
