I recall moveon.orgy had a superbowl ad that wasn't really over the top, but was rejected a few years back. They knew it would be rejected, but got a lot of coverage claiming censorship. But this has always been the case for advocay ads, right or left.
And what of the “It isn’t easy being GREEN” Kermit the Frog ad for some new eco car?
When it comes to the content of ads I really couldn't care one way or another . . . since I haven't watched a Super Bowl in years. In fact, the whole event is a media-driven farce wrapped around 11 to 13 minutes of action on a football field during the course of a 5-hour extravaganza.
I think that's a good approach. The Superbowl is a national event. It's not a bad thing to have some events that don't involve politics.
That was one of the good things about Hockey Night in Canada growing up. Don Cherry never allowed politics on his show, regardless of what was going on in Canada at the time. It was always all about the hockey.
How you doing, FBD? Hope all is well with you and your family.
