Ummm, you -are- aware, aren't you, that those children are indeed pledging allegiance to the American Flag, and that in the timeframe of the photo (late 1800's) that was a perfectly valid way for an American to address the flag?
That's the form of salute used by the author of the Pledge (Francis Bellamy).
40 years later it was changed by FDR because it looked too much like a Nazi salute. But the American one came first.

No, just a majority of the ones in the government school systems.

I was about to say...Ive never posted anything from NewsBlaze in my life! ... I just saw this in a search for Obama and education (posted a couple of other threads on the general subject) Yeah, I got confused between pages, sorry again.
I hope the story isn't true -- it would be very sad for our Nation. But I fear that it may be...

It’s called worship, and it doesn’t belong in the classroom.

Well, from doing some web searches, looking for some corroboration, I see a very similar item (but written in the first person), in a web forum called the tree of liberty. Don't know if this is the source, but it may be. No specifics, but it is a person saying "my son" vice "his son." That first-person post is a anonymous blog comment. It has even less credibility than the main article. ;-)
This is how urban legends get started. Look at all the Freepers who aren't bothering to wonder if it's true.
"Button? Meet PUSH."
Might be true, might not. Certainly gets people excited, though, don't it?

I don’t find this humorous at all and I wonder where the outrage is?

They absolutely know what they are doing! During the campaign somehow I ended up on the receiving end of an email from some schmuck that works for the NEA spewing the most deranged nonsense I’ve ever read in my life. THEY KNOW!

Well, at least the New Reagan will arise from the Obama victory. I doubt it. We're on the 5 yard line. What's needed is to rebuild the lineman one by one and run the ball and consistently make progress instead of dreaming of some new quarterback to come out of nowhere and try to lead a bunch of wimpy linemen.

Neocons, please go into the education field. You are needed to stop the poisonous tide of socialism. Your children and your grandchildren need you now.

The title of that picture is:
230px-1892_Pledge_of_Allegiance.jpg
It wasn't until after I posted that I remembered that 1892 was the date of Bellamy's authorship of the Pledge.
See here for where the photo and an explanation are:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pledge_of_Allegiance_to_the_Flag_of_the_United_States
On a second (*better*) look, I think buccaneer81 is right, it's probably just before FDR changed the salute.
