Last year on Valentine's Day, as my 90 year old dying father laid in his nursing home bed unable to move or speak clearly due to a debilitating stroke suffered a year earlier, his nurse felt he was trying to say something.

My mother had passed away six months earlier. He had endured a year after his stroke unable to walk, talk or swallow effectively, but he still participated and was loved by his family and care givers. He had repeatedly pulled through six asperated pneumonia crisis that would have killed men twwenty years his junior.

One of his favorite nurses leaned closer, and said "sweet heart, what do you want?"

He struggled and finally got out, "My Wife."

My sister sat comforting him that afternoon, as he struggled to just breath. Within an hour of him having moments alone that night he died quietly.

His last words, his Valentine wish now fulfilled, was on all of our minds and gave us peace with his passing.

Thank you for sharing this very touching story. How long were your parents married?

God bless you, your parents, your sibling (s) and the caregivers he had. In some states, he would not have made it that far. V’s wife.

Touching story.

Your Father must have loved her very much.
