Those people up there actually think that paper grows on trees.

We used to have a lot of paper mills up here. Used to be one of our big staples. Unfortunately, the left with help of the enviorowhackos shut most of them down and stopped the lumber industry nearly cold.

My grandfather was Kraske. I guess he started working there in “Rumpot” late ‘40s/early ‘50s because my father only moved to ME when he was a boy, from upstate NY. Don’t know when he retired, but I guess standard age, which would’ve meant ~’60s. Their house was on Washington St, where 2 streets converged like a Y. The house was built 1st in 1810; very cool (but VERY different now from even the ‘80s - seen recent pix of it).

I know, Maine has a few odd names...

I remember going to Mexico when I was young to a fair or something there. Had firecrackers that night; we were in our car on the road watching by then. It may have been July 4, but I don’t recall exactly.

BTW, very cool on the map!

My grandparents’ house was about literally across Washington St. from that Y where it joins Rumford Ave. If you look at that Y, his house would’ve been the property right at the white arrow(?) on the Washington St., next to the house AT the Y which is perpendicular to the street. Part of it looks like a blue-gray “U” which I think is the garage and later portion of the house they must have destroyed, maybe to get back to “original”.
