A New Zealand man who bought a second-hand MP3 player that contained U.S. military files on personnel who served in Afghanistan and Iraq handed it over to U.S. officials on Wednesday, New Zealand media reported.

Chris Ogle, 29, bought the $10 MP3 at a thrift shop in Oklahoma but when he plugged it in discovered it contained 60 U.S. military files ...

*snip*

The files contained the names and personal details of American soldiers, including ones who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as information about equipment deployed to bases and a mission briefing, said One News.

Waiting for Obama’s crackberry to wind up in a pawnshop.

That’s what is so bad about making things smaller, more powerful and convenient. Stuff gets done to save time, and after a while, some stuff gets overlooked.

Modern technology is great, but it brings about a lot of problems that just didn’t exist not that long ago.

I can’t tell from the article, did the guy voluntarily step forward and tell them it had files or did the govt somehow track him down?

I wondered something like that, too. If I found myself in that position, of course, I’d want to get rid of the damn thing as quickly as possible and would want it to go back where it belonged. The downside of that is that the guy could be seen as a “security risk” for no other reason than that he did something perfectly legal and innocent, but ended up with information he didn’t want and shouldn’t have seen.

Probably “disinformation” meant for the Muzzies, so they’ll really screw up when they try to use this particular “disinformation”... LOL...

I would imagine that we’ve spread quite a bit of that kind of disinformation around to those Muzzies...

The facts told are strange .. maybe purposely so. A New Zealander buys it in a shop in Oklahoma, and then turns it into US Embassy officials in New Zealand? I’m not getting the geographical sense of it all.

“U.S. embassy officials in New Zealand spoke to Ogle on Tuesday night and swapped his old MP3 player for a new one on Wednesday, New Zealand Press Association said.”

Well, I find many media stories lack important info. If they don’t know and they say so that’s one thing, but often they’re written as if the writer didn’t even know important things appear to be missing.

My guess is that the guy who bought the MP3 player will be convicted of espionage and the person who pawned the MP# player will be awarded the Medal of Freedom..
