Everyone is criticizing Obama in this thread, but do they think sanctions against Zimbabwe are a bad idea? I don’t want to send U.S. troops there, but if sanctions can topple Mugabe, I favor them.
What do you think they'll accomplish? The place is a total basket case. There isn't much of an economy left. The only thing you can hit would be charitable donations -- and most of those get stolen by the ruling clique. What is the threat that sanctions pose?
When have sanctions worked? Against Sadaam we had sanctions and a no-fly zone and we still had to go in a topple him.
Bambi could always use the race card against the commies in both countries. I’m not one who thinks our Marxist can’t unite other Marxists.

What sanctions against any country/leader have ever worked?
With Democrats in the WH and controlling congress, and the Pentagon's new African Command, look for US troops to be deployed somewhere in sub-Saharan Africa in the next 4 years. Zimbabwe, Dharfur... take your pick. It'll start off as a "humanitarian" mission, but evolve into another Somalia.
