your car is impounded because of unpaid parking tickets does that mean you have only been “renting” it?

Well, if you have to pay continual rates to park in your own driveway, then yes.
That is exactly correct.

>I notice they order it by $ rather than %.

You caught the “damned lie” part of these types of statistics. Good job.

Do you have Title to your property or do you only have an Abstract of Title? If you only have an Abstract then you do not really own your property.

An abstract looks like a title but it isn't. The government holds your title and effectively owns your land.

If you are one of the very few people in the country who actually has alluvial title to your property then, yes, you really own your property.

Obviously one cannot sell what one “rents” for a profit.

Oh, and I see you've never heard of New York City.

Only 5 NJ counties DIDN'T make the top50.

Monmouth in at #15. We paid over $12,000 last year.

I want to go to Georgia.

Some states do have personal property taxes on autos. But the point is there are costs associated with private property and taxes reflect them. Technically the state does not take possession of property for unpaid tax debt but auctions off the property to other parties for the taxes owed.

In addition, it is not unique for the state to have access to property rights for non-payment of debts so do private lien holders such as contractors or plumbers, etc.

Property taxes have been in existance since our Founding and none of the Founders would agree with your incorrect description of them.

Many Americans are now paying hundreds of dollars *every* single month for property taxes. You think that is right?

Correction: I was wrong on the number of counties in NJ.

ALL 21 counties made the top 50 highest tax counties in the country.

I’m in Monmouth also. We were hoping to move to Texas next year. Not sure if we’ll be able to sell though.

I would bet that a larger portion of renters are libs...so what do they care how much taxes Americans pay.

Renters pay property taxes.

To verify that your statement was entirely incorrect I decided to check Black’s Law Dictionary (some great reading therein) for the difference between an Abstract of Title and a Title. An Abstract is, as in other uses, merely “A condensed history of the title to land, consisting of a synopsis or summary of the material, or operative portion of all the conveyances, of whatever kind or nature, which in any manner affect said land, or any estate or interest therein, together with a statement of all liens, charges, or liabilities to which the same may be subject, and of which it is in any way material for purchasers to be apprised.” It in no way means the state owns the land. Where did you come up with that idea?

Rent controlled apartments themselves are not sold in NYC by tenants. They sell the right to rent them to subsequent tenants not the apartments themselves.

“OK, my county is at #253. My household income and home valuation are very near the median, but my property taxes are way higher than the median. To whom should I protest?”

You can complain to me. I won’t do anything for you, but then neither will anyone else! lol

An abstract of title is NOT the title, is it?
