A ban on the use of charcoal in Chad is making life hard for people already struggling with high food prices.
Families are being forced to burn furniture, cow dung, rubbish and roots of plants in order to cook.
Since the clampdown was announced - officially in order to help the environment - charcoal has become almost impossible to find.

“Since the clampdown was announced - officially in order to help the environment”
Again, liberal based nonsense threatening the lives of people all for touchy feely faux science ...
New angle on population control...?
Ecofreakery: How to ensure that a turd-world country remains turd-world ... and how to reduce a First World country to turd-world status.
It’s sadly comical to see this pop-up after another article from the LA Times titled “Health Before Ideology.”
There are worse things in life.
Like being born in Chad, living in Chad...or hanging chads.
Maybe they can make a deal with Zimbabwe? Banned Chad charcoal for fuel in the form of Zimbabwe currency?
Lincoln's statue and remains will be stored in a closet in the basement of the Smithsonian temporarily.
The decorator, Mikey, is spoda replicate this:
At the forefront of climate change, the environment ministry says more than 60% of Chad’s natural tree cover has been lost due to indiscriminate cutting of trees for charcoal.”
******
The article goes on to state the environment ministry wants people to switch over to things such as gas but 95% of the people in Chad don’t have gas appliances. Sounds as if they instituted this total ban suddenly giving people no time to find alternatives so people are burning anything they can find to cook with.
Insanity.
So, So sad. We could send them coal.
What in the world is a "spoda"?
I spent some time in Chad in the mid-80s. It was considered then by the State Department to be an “LDC,” a Least Developed Country, like Angola and Mozambique. The poor blighters were trying to work their way up to third world status.
Sounds like Blackberryese for "supposed to".
NC/SC low land (tidewater areas) dialect for ‘suppose to’. It’s a culture thing like Ohio Chili, demoncraptic sacrifice, uze giz, etc.
Unfortunately the poor in Chad haven’t much hope until the corrupt in their government is cleaned out. Tons of UN have been confiscated in years past just to be sold off elsewhere in the world and that money pocketed.
UN aid I meant to type.....phone rang dang it!
There was a Bud ad once where the Sahara Forest was mentioned. When the announcer corrected the other person saying it was the Sahara Desert, the reply was “It is now”. When all of their trees are gone I think it will be the Chad Desert.
Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation.
Were you working in the oil biz there?
