resident Obama Does First Formal TV Interview as President with Al-Arabiya
January 26, 2009 6:29 PM
As special envoy to the Middle East, George Mitchell heads off to the region to begin work on negotiating a cease fire between Israel and the Palestinians, President Obama has sat for his first formal TV interview with the Arabic cable TV network Al-Arabiya, ABC News has learned.
The interview was taped this evening and is set to air at 11 pm ET, as Mitchell is in the air and on his way to the region.
Based in Dubai, Al-Arabiya estimates that it has a potential audience exceeding 23 million in the Gulf region.

I really do wonder about his true faith, don’t you?
Always good for a new president to do a interview with a cozy news network. It makes him feel more accessible to his constituents, don't ya think?
He’s obviously still campaigning for those 57 States.
That would be the 57 MUSLIM countries, that is.
Considering that his first official presidential phone call was to the
hamas leader, this is just expected.
bump
Be careful. Bush did several interviews with them.
And, especially so in light of what may still be unsubstantiated, that he corroborated a few month's before the election with AQ. That sir, is treasonous by any definition....
It's stupider than it gets! (new math, heheheheh)
They (the jihadists/"twelvers"/etc.) are Poster Child for the "bearing a grudge" foundation. They NEVER let a perceived insult go. And, they are still stinging from having been expelled from Europe after centuries of ruling over it.
And don't forget -- to their way of thinking, any piece of real estate they step on is THEIRS -- forever.
So, while Mexico sharpens the fang as they prepare for "reconquista" of "their" land (AKA the entire western part of the USA from Texas to California to Oregon to Washington and all points between), the muslims are seeing Europe as "their" land, wrongly stolen from them by the infidels.
Or to put it another way, you know how the Philistines think that Israel is rightfully "theirs"? Well, multiply that sentiment by infinity squared, and you'll have some idea of how they view Europe.
OBTW, there are more than a few who've "set their footsteps upon" this country, too.
Granted, it's only like one percent or so who are nutso. But what's one percent of a billion?
The whole mess is so incredibly discouraging. I just can't see a happy ending. I do see a few people being SO disenfranchised (wallets emptied, put into debt for the next few generations, in order to pay bonuses to the slime who ruined the economy, orchestrated by a two-bit frosh senator that no one ever heard of, who seems intent on making George "It's a Religion of Peace!" Bush seem like a piker -- and can lie with a tongue SO silken as to make Slick come off like Biden Jr. -- and, chiefest among his lies seems to be the one about how he was never a Muslim, even though the few bits of paper trail he hasn't been able to quash make it abundantly clear that he was indeed a muslim -- and, given the "once muslim, always muslim" doctrine (compounded by his blatant kowtowing to "the arab street"), well... it's as if it's designed to provoke those on the edge -- and, push as many as possible to the edge. (The collapse of an economy -- and a way of life -- can do that to some folks.)
So, I expect that some folks will go the "pitchforks and torches" route (using perhaps more contemporary implementation of those... implements), resulting in two things -- first, they'll be crushed like bugs, and second, we will see a promulgation of draconian "anti-crime" laws, executive orders, and so forth, the likes of which have never been seen on Earth (at least not since the Reichstag BBQ).
I'm glad I don't live in a city -- but I am very worried about rural life in an area that's increasingly becoming Mexican (up from about nothing, all the way to 15% of the population in this county as of the last census, and I can guarantee you it's a LOT higher percentage SINCE that census was taken) -- and, has a creepy number of creepy people of non-mexican extraction. (I looked on that website that shows the location of sex offenders -- good grief, they're all around me! -- and, employment in this region is abysmal and getting worse (unless you're an illegal mexican -- and I am not kidding about that).
In short, even living far from any major city, there is still plenty of fodder for Big Ugly if the infrastructure comes tumbling down.
I suspect it's not too different in most of the country -- and I suspect that there's a reason for them hustling real quick to "build the camps" as reported in another thread a day or two ago. Heck, I've seen no end of posters right here on FR talking like they're one inch from going postal. I cringe inside every time I see someone making a "lexington and concord" post, talking about how they're gonna... fill in the blanks. All they're gonna do is get themselves killed, and give B. Hussein the pretext he wants, to "justify" bringing down the iron fist.
Remember when those whackjobs blew up the OKC building? Wasn't it amazing the way Slick was able to have his people draft a massive (and majorly draconian) "crime bill" within a few days of the tragedy?
Why, it's almost as if they'd taken their time preparing it in advance, waiting for just the right moment to drop it on a shell-shocked populace, that in other times would never have accepted anything like that.
But, when you take a "great middle" that is trained to 1) feel good about themselves, 2) demand instant gratification (readily met by bread and circuses, booze and porn, dope and hotrods, etc.), and, the latest last-piece-of-the-puzzle, 3) demand "security" over liberty --- when you take that kind of populace, and tell them they have a choice between the "bitter clingers" running around with Big Ugly Guns, OR, "just a little bit of legislation that no reasonable person could object to, which we call the 'enabling law' that will allow Our Leader to protect us, keep the beer flowing, keep the pr0n on the cable, keep The Big Game as scheduled, etc., -- you REALLY think it'll be a hard choice for them to make?
Just some food for thought. Call me cynical, but I tend to be right about ugly stuff comin' down the pike. (And I do NOT enjoy being anywhere near the festivities!)
So, I don't live in a city, but living in the country won't be any bed of roses either. So I guess I wish I lived in a cave. Or on the space station. I do NOT anticipate things being at all pleasant when the "thin blue line" is stretched to the breaking point -- and then replaced by the military.
We live in sickeningly interesting times. I want some BOREDOM!
PS: I expect I'll be "called out" as a "coward" by a few armchair commandos -- maybe even a few "citizen militiamen" -- well, frankly, my dears, I don't give a damn. I'm a sixtyish old fart who's seen enough of history, and human nature, to know a really bad scene shaping up when I see it. I have ZERO inclination to turn my wife into a widow or my kids into orphans, because some guys with visions of glory in their noggins think they can taunt me into "taking up arms" with them. It ain't gonna happen. So, you go on and start without me. I'll read about it in the paper, and remind myself that I tried to warn ya. This ain't 1776, and you ain't gonna be up a bunch of redcoats armed with blunderbusses. You take up arms against the biggest, strongest military in the world... and you'll pay the price -- in full, and quickly.
Well, I'm digressing a bit -- but I can see the nonsense coming my way from the usual quarters, as ALWAYS happens when I try to talk sense to the "pitchforks and torches" commandos.
This is a link to a story about the Jews and the formation of Israel. I liked it. It does have a couple of pictures of the Holocaust and terror attacks in Israel. Just so you are forewarned. Nothing REALLY graphic.

Thanks, bhfred. That’s a good summary of the history of Israel. Simple and to the point.
