GALVESTON, Texas — Even the most grizzled investigators were reduced to tears by the disturbing details of the death of 2-year-old Riley Ann Sawyers.
The tot's already decomposed remains had been stuffed into a plastic container that was dumped into Galveston Bay. A fisherman found the container and its contents on a tiny island about a mile from the shore of the huge bay in October 2007.
On Monday, jury selection is set to begin for the capital murder trial of Riley Ann's mother, 20-year-old Kimberly Dawn Trenor. She and her husband, Royce Clyde Zeigler II, are accused of beating the toddler to death in July 2007.

Good God,what a sick story.
Juries in Galveston Co. have been very liberal and set pedophiles and rapist murderers and thieves free. Hurricane may have cleaned up the jury pool and this poor precious one will see her death avenged even if it is from Heaven!
I presume from the fact everyone has different surnames, that her husband was not the father of the child.

This Murder Mom and Boyfriend/husband? had just moved here from Mentor, Ohio I read when the parents were arrested.
Not *mother* and *father*.
More like *incubator* and *sperm donor*.
Those subhuman pieces of scum don’t deserve the titles of *mother* and *father*.
That poor baby. The terror and excruciating pain she must have felt.
Any jury that refuses to convict scum like that deserves to burn with them for eternity.
I'm all in favor of an eye for an eye in this case. The heck with the rope. It's too quick, unless you planned on beating them with it.
A couple of years ago a man killed another man, cut his body into pieces and dumped him in the bay. He got off, he walked. I can’t remember how he managed that, the whole episode was so revolting I stopped listening. We owned a house on Galveston Bay and for a couple of years we voted there. If I had been called for that man’s trial, there would have been a hung jury.
I agree but have been told not to expect the Death Penalty from any Galveston County Jury! Now if they all come the North County...Conservative and Republican....my part of the County...the Jury will vote for the Death Penalty.
It’s so disgusting. Juries are so tipped towards liberal morons. In one jury selection, a fellow might-be juror told me if I didn’t want to be picked for jury duty, to tell them that I listen to Rush Limbaugh. The case was settled before I even went in, so I never had the opportunity to test that.
He's not the little girl's father. He's her stepfather. The mother got herself pregnant by some sperm donor at age 18.
The statistical fact is that there's nobody more dangerous to a child than momma's new boyfriend or husband (assuming he's not the biological father of the child).
If we're going to adopt the idea that people are just animals, then we'd better be prepared to accept the idea that, in many mammalian species, the mother's new mate kills the offspring of any previous male.
Two baseball bats would be better.

How people can harm children and animals is beyond me. They need to be removed from the Gene Pool.
