Getting 3 felonies at 3 different times indicates extreme stupidity or very poor judgment and I have read many jackets/ case files, showing many small run ins with the law that lead no where, case wise and talked to many that got away with many crimes between charges causing great harm to many people before finally getting prison time. The violent crime rate went down drastically when 3 strikes came in and is only now going up due to socio/psychopaths growing up. That said, I know many convicts that should not be locked up for as long as they have been. No system is totally fair when people are concerned.

he spent a lot of time in medical units and was closely watched by most of the Italians, he did not need the AB’s and they are few and far between, not a large group, they are like the pit bulls on a bunny farm no one bothers them because the dont fear the man or more time as they have to be doing life for murder to be a member. Leavenworth only had 2 or 3 Ab's at a time but lots of wanna be’s as gophers.

Why are inmates let out of their cells enough to stage a riot? And why are inmates allowed to be in gangs? The answer is the same for almost every question that starts with "Why..." and has some stupidity following it.
Liberalism.

Are you saying that that little article makes you informed enough to tell me that I dont know crap. and that gives you more incite than my actually talking to and working with all of the aforementioned gangs and groups during my 30 plus years in Law enforcement and corrections in the same Justice Department that authored the unreleased report you cite. Wow I should have have just asked a news reader for my information. You really need to get out of your basement and tell your mother your moving out to really find out what is going on in the world. and if that is your idea of proving yourself and it is tiring. I recommend you get a job in a down town area and learn from the bangers and stupid shits that are gang members. By your name are you an MS-13 member and have more incite about the Salvadoran groups or at least more than I do about the people nation or the crips and bloods or mexican and biker groups/gangs not to mention the muslim groups I worked with.

And with all that experience you didn’t know that most inmates are gang members before they’re incarcerated?

I must bow to your reasoned response and praise your power of deduction/delusion. you though are off your meds and should call your mental health professional asap. If you would read your little article and check the numbers it provides, it says 147,000 gang members are incarcerated in the prisons and jails of this country. Yes, if I could not read and must listen to MSNBC I might think that was most of the inmates in this country, but if you check out the bureau of justice statistics you might just find that there are 2,293,157 inmates in this country in various states of confinement and the above 147,000 is only about 8 % of the population and If that in your mind is MOST inmates so be it and I must end this discussion with you as you will probably want to change crayons soon.

I have been telling liberal friends that if Katrina was Bush’s fault, then the Ice storm that has killed 57 people and still has nearly a million without power and heat is Obama’s fault. They don’t like the turn around is fair play stuff.

I provided you with facts right out of the Justice Dept and you dismissed them cause most of your correctional experience has been in the kitchen while mine has been watching and working with inmates.

I agree that prison ought to be a safe environment. Things like shower rapes shouldn’t happen—there should be a guard watching the area to make sure it doesn’t. I assume there is too little manpower and bribes are probably a factor—”I’ll give you such-and-such if you don’t watch the showers for a while.” The answer might be privatization. I’m sure it’s not easy to fire a guard at a government facility.
Other than that, I don’t think you could really do total isolation. It should probably be run something like high school with nightsticks.
