Man uses 'Final Exit' as suicide guide

DES MOINES, Iowa, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- An Iowa man who apparently took his own life was found dead with the book and DVD versions of the suicide guide "Final Exit" close to hand.

Des Moines police said Derek Mott, 56, also had a list on his desk of needed items for a suicide device described in the book, The Des Moines Register reported. The cause of death was described as asphyxiation.

Diane Mott discovered her husband's body at about 4 p.m. Thursday, police said. She told the newspaper he had been in great pain because of diabetes.

The book was written by Derek Humphry, who became an advocate of assisted suicide after his wife, suffering from terminal cancer, took her own life in 1975. Humphry is a founder of the Hemlock Society and a past president of the World Federation of Right to Die Societies.

"This book promises them relief. But in a way, it's giving people permission to kill themselves," said Dale Chell, a suicide prevention coordinator with the Iowa Department of Public Health. "The idea that someone is helping someone end their life seems to be against human nature. You should help someone end their agony, rather than end their life."

Actually, I’m pretty sure some of them may have been retreads, I’m not sure how those get counted.

You know, he never did answer my question about whether a mom who kills herself the day after a breast cancer diagnosis is heroic or not.

I’m still waiting for one of the deathbots to show me some sort of documentation that palliative narcotics and/or medically induced comas will not alleviate pain.

For that matter, I’m still waiting to find out why Terri needed morphine for pain if she was a “vegetable” or how a “vegetable” could experience “euphoria”.

The only way Terri was able to experience any pain or pleasure was to be starved and dehydrated to death, which of course caused her to experience euphoria. I’m sure that comes as a relief to anyone who has chosen that method of death for their former loved ones.

I have a policy that is for $700,000 and it will pay for any cause. There was a 24 month suicide clause. I purchased the policy 18 years ago and if I commit suicide, my wife retires.

**and similarly I will not give a woman a pessary to cause an abortion.
But I will preserve the purity of my life and my arts ***

I saw a copy of this on the wall of a physician I used to go to.

It read...”And similarly I will not give a woman an illegal operation.” End of quote.

So, Terri was a “vegetable” who couldn’t feel anything and had no real brain activity, but could suddenly experience pain and euphoria while she was being slowly murdered?

Euphoria yes, but not pain. The very presence of the team of murderers prevented any possibility of pain. Only euphoria.

Yep, and just to make it more pleasing Mikey and the other murderers decided to have a pizza party at Terri’s bedside the night before she died.

Actually, they usually do, although some policies won't cover suicide for the first year or two.
