Representative Eric Bedingfield of South Carolina launched the first effort of what is a national grassroots campaign launched by the Alliance for Worker Freedom (AWF) to combat the federal legislation the Employee Free Choice Act.
According to AWF Executive Director Brian Johnson, South Carolina is the first of approximately 20 states who will introduce this measure over the next several weeks. We know from polling that 77 percent of Republicans, 82 percent of Democrats believe in protecting private ballots, says Mr. Johnson. With this grassroots campaign, we aim to show federal representatives that their constituents and local state legislatures do not want Uncle Sams union-money lined pockets stepping foot in their state.
Endorsed by the Communist Party USA and introduced by Congressional Democrats, EFCA would eliminate a workers right to a federally-supervised private ballot election. This would be replaced by a kind of openair petition known as a card check. Under this system, workers would lose their right to privacy. Employers, union organizers, and co-workers would all know whether a given worker votes for or against unionization.
The Alliance for Worker Freedom says they have provided model anti-EFCA resolution language and are working with several members of state legislatures and other local governing bodies to ensure their voices are heard on the federal level. Johnson also says not even right to work states are safe. There is a big difference when you simply cast a vote for something, and when you cast a vote for something knowing that your state legislative body has instructed you, on behalf of the constituents, to oppose, adds Johnson. The difference is, are these federal Senators and Representatives going to stand-up for workers rights in their state, or will they simply be pandering to the unions that gave over $600 million to the left this past cycle.

Since it is a press release I’m pretty sure that there is no legal reason to post an excerpt, but that image of the release on their website didn’t make grabbing the text easy. I had to go to the “printable version” to do it.
